Great for travel and in snow

I have a narrow foot and a narrow heel. I loved the look of these boots for travel, because they could protect against many elements and look good for exploring both cities and trails. I was determined to break them in before a trip, but wasn’t able to do it as my heel would rub and I would get blisters every time I wore them. After leaving the boots with a cobbler who stretched the heel, the boots became much more comfortable, and I was able to continue breaking them in. After my first hike in the snow in these boots i am still impressed. Great comfort, style, and warmth. Glad I bought them!

Honestly, I bought these for the sake of fashion and the winter weather of the Northeast. I wanted something snow, slush and rain worthy that wasn't as cumbersome as a snow boot. I did purchase my typical shoe size, and the boots feel very comfortable with regular weight socks. As the weather gets colder a heavy wool sock will likely feel just as comfy, as they do not feel tight at all. These boots feel very well made. No break-in was necessary.

I've wanted these forever and love them!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have wanted these for years and got them as a Christmas gift from my mom on the cyber monday sale. These never go on sale so I was so excited. They are everything I've dreamed of. Beautiful craftsmanship, high quality, great tread and a look that is both classic and trendy. They are heavy but in a good way in that you know they'll be durable. These are going to take some time to break in but I know that they'll last a lifetime especially with the re-conditioning services offered by Danner. I also like that they are made in America in Oregon. There are certain things in life that are worth the splurge and in my opinion it's shoes and mattresses because you're always in one or the other for the most part. I'm looking forward to making memories in these travelling and hiking . I chatted with the Gearhead and ordered through them and they gave me a 10% store credit in my account to use later.. Good luck with your boot shopping!

I wish this worked for my foot!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love this boot, but I have very tricky feet-- they are flat and I use custom insoles to support them-- so I have to return them. I really wanted to keep them, but this boot has too narrow a toe box to make it work for me. Backcountry has great customer service and I use them whenever I can.

Should have bought them years ago!

I finally decided to buy these boots. I've read so many mixed reviews about them over the years and so I have always been hesitant to do so. I have been in the market for a new pair of hikers and I bought the Danner Jag boot (seemed like a sweet deal) and I was really disappointed when they came. I just felt they looked silly and so I returned them and purchased the Mountain Lights instead b/c that is what I really wanted. Overall, these boots are great. They are very different than a typical hiker, but that is what I like most about them!! They are retro, classic and I truly feel I will have these for a really long time and that is why they are worth the investment. There is a lot of debate about the sizing and so it can be kind of confusing. For reference, I am a 6.5/7 in most shoes - and I usually buy a 7 in my hikers. I have a 'thin' foot (not narrow) which means that just about everything about my foot is really thin and bony so I tend to buy my shoes a little more snug for that reason. After much debate, I bought the 6.5 and I would say they are perfect for my feet. If you are between sizes but your foot is a little more 'meaty' I would recommend the bigger size. If your foot is like mine, I would suggest the half-size down. Hope that helps. As for breaking them in. Yes, you need to break them in. They are stiff. I live in an old loft apartment building so the best way I break in any hiker is by climbing up/down the 10 flight of stairs with my boots on. It is the best way to break-in shoes/boots - it always works. I do have a little rubbing on my back heel, but I used the surgeons knot to help correct that during the break-in and it seems to be helping with the rubbing that was happening. But only time and wear will help overall. I can already tell, once these boots are broken-in completely, they will be awesome. If you want these, just buy them!!! You're welcome :)

Everything I always dreamed of

I am so excited to get these boots into the Wind Rivers this summer. My first impression was that they were super comfy and I couldn't believe how light they were! Love that they provide style and function. I normally wear a size 7.5 in most shoes. The 7.0s fit absolutely perfect, with room for thick socks.

My Danners...

I absolutely love my boots. I got them on sale, for $224.00, and saved over $100. I remember, back in the day, we called them, Herman Survivor boots...

Huge Brownie Points

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought these a gift and there has been nothing but praise for them. As most of the posts here say you do want to drop half a size. They broke in easily and I did buy the cleaner as well as the conditioner to aid in the lifespan of them.

Got these for my wife and she loves them. Great fit, very durable, and pretty stylish. The breathability is great, and the traction keeps her feet stuck to the trail when needed. A bit bulky, but that's what we were looking for. Great stuff!

Wasn’t sure at first

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After doing a bit of research on these boots I was sure they were the ones. After reading the reviews on sizing I wasn’t quite sure which size to order. I am an 8.5 usually but sometimes a 9 so I figured the 8.5 would be perfect! These shoes definitely run large. I ended up exchanging them for an 8. Now they fit perfect! I wore them up to Mt. Rainier last weekend and they were very supportive, and the tread is wonderful. I took them through the snow and they kept my feet warm and dry. I did notice the same problem others talked about, the did seem to rub on the back of my ankles a bit and feel quite uncomfortable but after an hour or so they had already felt like they were loosening up and molding to my feet. Like any leather boots they take a while to break in (moleskin will be your bff at first) but I would recommend!

Awesome pair of women's boots

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The Vibram sole offers good traction. These boots offer plenty of support. They are recraftable (Danner will resole them for you instead of making you buy a whole new pair of boots). And most importantly, they are super cute. Personally, I prefer buying an expensive pair of boots that will last you a lifetime instead of choosing cheaper boots and having to buy a new pair every few years. If it's good enough for Reese Witherspoon, it's good enough for my wife.

Classic boot that still does its job. Plus they look cool, since that's what matters out on the trail.

I typically wear a size 7.5. I have a friend that bought these in a size 8 and I tried them on. They were so tight along the sides of my feet (width); I have a pretty wide foot (I cannot wear the Soloman Speedcross if that is any indication on the width of my feet). What size should I get? When I tried her shoes on in the size 8 they seemed very narrow but I'm reading conflicting reviews now...

How warm are these for winter temps?

Hi Darcie! These are not rated for extremely cold temps as they do not have insulation.
