Great shorts- runs very small!

I bought these Castelli shorts on sale. Reviewers warned that they ran small. I’m a medium and bought a large. I think I could have bought an extra large! Just a great short overall- elastic cuffs on the legs are the best I’ve had on. Padding is comfortable and well stitched. Get them. But definitely get a size or two bigger.

Decent Value For A Castelli Garment

Not a bad buy for $50. I have several bib shorts from Castelli, all quite well-made and fit me well, support muscles, etc. My beef with 90% of the mens cycling shorts out there is that the waistband on the shorts rise nearly to my navel, and that's uncomfortable for me - I favor shorts, pants, etc. to ride lower, on my hips. On many other brands I own, I have to fold the waistband over an inch or so (doubled-up) or it becomes uncomfortable to me over time. I suspected from online photos & such that these Entrata shorts ride a bit lower on the waist, and that turned out to be true. I'm 6'0" and 156 LBS., slender, and size M fits me snugly in all other Castelli stuff, bibs, jerseys. So, definitely more comfortable in the waist for me. Standard Castelli chamois; I usually wear "cycling underwear" with an additional pad for extra comfort on long rides, no matter what type of brand of bibs or shorts I'm wearing otherwise. Also note that, as with most Castelli items, they may seem to run a bit small, as compared to identical sizing for street clothing, but then I prefer snug and aero when on the bike, so size M does just fine for me. As with all other Castelli items I've bought, well-made & well-designed, high quality construction. My go-to favorite cycling kit.

Possibly defective?

The pad on these shorts were roughly cut and just sewn in. So there is an edge all around the pad. This seems so shoddily made compared to every other short I've seen or own (Rapha, REI, Pearl Izumi, Zoic). I still tried them on to see how they fit and it fit well but was too worried I'd get irritated by how much of the excess pad was flapping out beyond the stitch or it'd fold up weird and cause irritation. After looking at other shorts they make it looks like this is just what Castelli does which is just weird but at least was partially covered by the stitch in. The size was right going by their measurements to size. People seem to freak out about Castelli sizes. They should just use numbers or something so people don't freak out about being a XXL when normally they wear an L or XL. It's just a lot more range of sizes.

I love these shorts. Very premium feel and a great chamois. I'm 6.3 and 210 lbs and the XXL fits me perfect. Keeps me comfy on the longest rides. Just ordered another pair.

Runs Small

Was expecting a fit with a Large that would be comfortable. Wearable, but very tight. I normally wear a Medium in US cycling shorts such as Giro and Hincapie. Knowing that Castelli runs small, I went up a size. Should have gone to an XL. I have a 33inch waist!

I was wondering if these were youth... I'm usually a M or L (6'1", 165 lbs) and the Large was way too tight. I returned for an XL and hoped those would fit better. I have a 32" waist and even the XL way wayyyy too tight. Had to return both sizes, and pay return shipping unfortunately. I think I'll stick with PEARL iZUMi shorts, they seem more true to size.
