A room with a view.

Whether you're exploring the Colorado Plateau or camping somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, the Basin and Range Escalante 2 Tent delivers the coverage you need to get out and stay out. This sturdy backcountry shelter is built with a durable polyester shell and fully sealed seams to keep water out, and the light and tough aluminum poles ensure the tent stays upright when high winds come blowing through your camp—just don't forget to stake it out securely. Two large doors grant easy access in and out of the tent when nature calls in the early hours in the morning. And since two people, a dog, and gear make things a little cramped inside any tent, the Escalante features dual vestibules to help keep the tent floor clear of clutter and gear.

Easy to set up!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this more as a containment unit for my dog so she didn't go chasing skunks in the middle of the night. It fits us both (she's a smaller dog) and would fit another person along with us well. I also like the full mesh top so we can still see the stars.

Great 2 person option

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got one of these tents for a trip to Moab this year, and it worked great. Super easy to set up, 5 minutes max! Fit's 2 people and a smaller dog well, or 1 person and a large dog well, plus a small cooler. Rain cover works well, and covers all the vented top great. Would recommend for an inexpensive option for a small trip.

Easy to pitch.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Basic tent suitable for car camping. This thing is easy to pitch and won't let you down if a rainstorm comes rumbling through your camp in the middle of the night.

Great Bang for the Buck

After several trips to the mountains and desert, I'm very pleased with this tent. May be a little bulky for 3+day backpacking trips, but great for weekend adventures. Great quality and design. No regrets with this purchase!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had the opportunity to test this tent out for a couple of weekends, and I thought it was great! It's a simple, no frills tent that doesn't weigh too much, and comes at a great price.

The tent is very easy to set up; we were able to get it fully staked out in about 5 minutes with two people, and I was able to do it myself in less than ten. The inside is roomy, and comfortable sleeps two people plus a small amount of gear; and the two vestibules will easily protect your packs and other larger items. Ventilation was great; I never experienced any excessive condensation, yet we stayed warm even when the temps dropped below freezing. The packs down to an easily packable size, and while it's far from being the lightest tent on the market you could definitely take it on a shorter backpacking trip.

My only gripe about this tent would the lack of
