Love the look, feel, fit, and functionality of this base layer, but the fabric started pilling after 1 use. Still fully functional and my go-to base, but didn't expect the fabric to do that so soon.

Seems like a quality garment that will be very comfortable. I took off one star because I would have liked for the shirt tail to be a bit longer, such as depicted in the marketing photos.

I returned a Under Armour Base layer 4.0 as the quality has tanked from the earlier versions. My old UA Base layer 2.0 was way better in quality and warmer than the new 4.0. I decided to give this Backcountry brand a try and I'm glad I did, MUCH higher quality than the Under Armour. Fit, finish, feel, zipper quality...it's all there. Money well spent. I would purchase again. Well done Backcountry!

High Quality but I Returned It

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I bought both the 1/4 zip and crew options on a steep discount in the off season. This is a high quality piece of gear but I found the crew baselayer to be more comfortable so I ended up returning this one. Four stars because it high quality, it just wasn?t for me. As far as sizing, I?m 6ft and 175lbs. I wear a medium in most things but for fitted baselayers I usually wear large. I ordered large and it was pretty big on me, definitely bigger than the large I kept in the crew version. Seems like it runs a bit large and it wasn?t as form fitting as I expected it to be.

The fit, zipper length & feel of fabric against skin is great. If worn as an outside layer, ie: spring, the material "pills" badly under pack straps & on back. Still comfy & warm & not stinky, but won't win any fashion awards!

George Costanza famously said that, if it were socialy acceptable, he would drape himself in velvet. That was in the mid-90s and garment technology has come a long way. I can say with confidence that today, George would opt for a fine merino wool baselayer like this. Social acceptance is nice, but these baselayers are even nicer. When Superman retires, he'll have a closet full of these. Don't wait and let FOMO haunt you. Buy yourself one now and embrace your inner George.
