Why We Like The Altra Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Boot
For support and waterproof performance that doesn't weigh down our stride, we lace into Altra's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Boot. The max ultra-light cush underfoot softens rocky ground, while the breathable membrane keeps our feet dry, not clammy, as we splash through water crossings. When the trail steepens, the multi-directional lugs give our steps biting grip on the way up and the way down.

Held up to Iceland
I wasn't sure I wanted hiking boots and I didn't know if these would work for my feet. I loved them! I took them to Iceland and put them through miles and miles of everything and lots of crazy weather. They kept my feet dry, warm, and comfortable.

First pair of Altras

The right shoe rubs on the ankle. Super uncomfortable. The wide toe box was a plus. The tread is coming off as well. Got mine in March I believe.

Caveat emptor
Now have my replacement pair. The same issue with the upper tongue stitching. Unlike the line peak 2, the stitching is down too low into the seam and thus creates a friction bulge. It's a design defect. Murder on the ankles.

Wanted to Love these like I love my Low GTX, but OUCH!
Got these b/c I love my Altra Olympus 5 Low GTX! They looked super cushy, but hard and bulky seams between the bottom laces and top (both shoes/both sides) rub right on the ankle bone! OUCH! CS was no help.

Best ever
Literally the best shoes I've ever had on my feet. I am desperately searching for their standard shoe counter part. The only shoes I can wear that don't make my feet go numb. Extremely waterproof.

I want to love these
I loved the shoe part of these and made my feet feel great.... My ankles not so much. Just wearing them around the house twice for 20 minutes left bruises on my ankle bones from the shoe.

My favorite hiking shoes!
I have several pairs of altras and other hiking shoes but these are my favorite. Perfect for mud and snow and are actually waterproof. They're not too heavy or bulky feeling like other waterproof boots. They have perfect cushion for me and my ankle feels well supported on uneven terrain. I didn't have issues with hitting my ankles as others said but did start with shorter hikes to break them in. They were comfortable for me right out of the box. I'd definitely buy again!

Beware of the loop on the heel!
Beware! There is a loop on the back of the boot. I used cleats to snow hike. My cleat caught on this stupid loop 3 times and caused me to fall on the trail. Since I was hiking alone, that was scary. Boots were nice and warm. No water got inside.
