With its 64mm waist and generous sidecut, the Alpina Discovery 102 Touring Ski is chomping at the bit to float through wide open meadows and towering pine groves. Like most touring skis, the Discovery comes shaped with a wider, stabler waist that's suited more for making its own trail than pure speed. Steel edges provide confidence-inspiring grip in case you cross over onto harder, wind-buffed slopes, without slowing you down in the light and fluffy stuff. On the underside of the ski, Alpina graced the Discovery with a Sollte SS810 waxless base, which glides easily on flats or gentle descents, while maintaining efficiency as you climb. Plus, it requires far less maintenance than traditional waxed bases do. Take advantage of the Discovery's playful wood core as you duck under trees and along high alpine ridges; it remains energetic in a variety of situations, without feeling heavy or unyielding.
