When you can't count on nature to provide.

Relying on your usual bed of pine boughs to keep you warm and cozy throughout the night isn't the best idea when you're camping in the desert or trekking through the tundra. And as tempting as a bed of cacti or lichen sounds—come to think of it pine needles aren't all that great, either—it might be a good idea to bring the Vaude Norrsken Sleeping Pad along; no matter what.

With its regular size weighing in at just over a pound (1lb. 5oz to be exact) , the Norrsken won't cramp your usual ultralight style too bad while the pad's inflatable and insulated design puts plenty of space between you and the heat-robbing ground. Vaude put a layer of Primaloft insulation throughout the pad to help insulate against the cold, hard ground and then put thicker baffles along the edges of the pad, so you don't accidentally roll of during the night.

    Sustainability Strategy: Vaude

The German mountain and bike sports outfitter VAUDE is pursuing a comprehensive sustainability strategy. This runs like a “green thread” through all segments of the company and shows how responsibility for people and for nature is systematically pursued at VAUDE. The goal is to create a balance between ecological, social and economic responsibility. “The expense that this involves is enormous. But we are convinced that it makes sense and is worthwhile in the long term,” said VAUDE CEO, Dr. Antje von Dewitz. In November 2015 VAUDE received the highest honors at the prestigious German Sustainability Award and was named “Germany's Most Sustainable Brand.”
