    Favorite Piece of Gear <$50

    • Height: 5'10"

    I. Love. This. Thing. Probably my favorite piece of gear I’ve ever bought for under $50. It is lightweight and thin enough to fit under a pretty tight helmet and is so breathable! Read: it will not turn into a block of ice next to your mouth and skin due to frozen breath condensation. In windy and colder conditions, it will require another layer depending on how hot or cold you run. Personally, I tend to run pretty warm, so as long as I’m moving around, I’ve found very few instances that this thing wasn’t enough for my face and neck in winter conditions.

Good for winter camping at night!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I just went winter camping up in the mountains at Uninta Wasatch Cache National Forrest. I wore this at night when sleeping and it kept me very warm! Its warm but lightweight, compressible, and comfortable to wear.

    Balaclava > Neck Warmer

I have been snowboarding forever and always wore the thermal, wool neck warmers but could never figure out how to keep my mouth and nose warm without looking like a bank robber. This balaclava is lighter weight but still keeps my neck, head, mouth and nose well protected which is a complete game changer on snowy days. Without pulling apart my hood/jacket, I can easily grab it with my gloves on and slide it on/off my face. Although I would definitely recommend this balaclava, I wish it came in a smaller size so it could be tighter and more wind resistant on my face - it is a bit thin too.

My go to for when it's so cold out your face tingles and numbs up. Very lightweight and protects you from most wind and cold situations no problem. Throw a beanie over this and you are pretty much ready for a full on blizzard.
