Love this pack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this backpack for two reasons: class & an upcoming vacation. I have duffel bags for trips, but I wanted something easy to carry. This was perfect. It's sturdy, water resistant, and comfortable enough to walk a few miles with a full pack. The only downside is that it isn't very breathable, so my back was getting pretty warm.
For reference: When used for class, I usually carry 1-2 binders, a lab notebook, and my laptop. I'll throw in one or two zip pouches with essentials and all of my pens/pencils fit in the front zip pocket. The zipper in the flap is helpful for small items like my subway pass and sunglasses. For the trip, I only planned to take a carry-on for 8 days in Germany. I managed to pack all my essentials into the Arbor. I brought along one small handbag for our passports/cash. Even slightly over packing, it all fit easily. Souvenirs wouldn't fit, but we planned it that way. I couldn't have asked for a better bag.

Patagonia Arbor Pack for the win!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is an all around awesome backpack! Made of high quality materials like we've come to expect from Patagonia and all the right pockets/zippers/buckles needed for organizing items.

Also will say that this backpack is the perfect size! Large enough if you need to through clothes in it for a weekend trip, but small and slim enough to use as a daily pack for heading into the office.

Great Pack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like this pack a lot, but it's a little bit narrower than I like for a school backpack. It's comfortable and stylish. The outside pocket is a little awkward because the clips get in the way, but it's not a huge deal.

A Classic Bag

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this bag. I use it primarily for work; the lap top sleeve makes it great for this purpose. Its also a great size for traveling and getting around town, great for short day hike. Simple design, well made and beautiful materials. I'm sure I will have this for a long time.

Simple, Durable Backpack!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned this backpack for two years and still use it daily. It is extremely durable and I've put it through the wringer and it doesn't have any holes. I like the laptop sleeve inside, which is great for a laptop or papers. It''s comfortable to wear for long periods of time even if you have heavier things. I've taken it hiking and most recently use it to bring to work everyday. I had debated this and the Patagonia Ironwood, but ended up returning the Ironwood and keeping this; I'm glad I did. I thought the missing water bottle holder would be more of a problem for me, but I actually never even think about it. I got the Fatigue Green color and always get compliments :)

Great for Everything

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got this as a gift for my brother. He uses it for school and as a day pack on trips. Perfect amount of storage, and there are just enough pockets for everything he needs. He loves it.

Great urban pack

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Great for hauling around laptop, charger, and a book or two. It's lightweight and simple. Purchased for my son and he uses it for school and work and loves it.

Needs bigger exterior pocket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm prefacing my review with this: I do really like this pack! I use it for school and every day trekking about my hometown as a person who is fresh out of a car. I can carry my computer, books and notebooks for the day's classes, and I can even throw in my climbing shoes, tango shoes, and a change of clothes for my busy Thursday nights.

However, the one qualm I have is that there is only one exterior pocket, and that pocket becomes increasingly inaccessible the more the main pack gets filled with stuff, as it doesn't actually expand beyond the dimensions of main pack. This makes getting my wallet in and out somewhat fussy and annoying, whereas if there was just a nice little side pocket that I could reach back and get into nice and easy, then I'd be giving this 5 stars.

Other than that, I do love this pack. It holds a lot of stuff, and the waist straps make it easier on the ol' shoulders when it gets heavy.

Awesome Backpack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice and easy light backpack for everyday school/commuting use. I dig the simplicity of it, having few pocket, it keeps me from cluttering. There are tons of loops to attach water bottles, locks, hammocks, etc. if desired. Being able to tighten the straps is a bonus as well for when the pack is not at full capacity.

Great casual pack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First off -- I'm surprised that anyone actually routinely uses this pack for hiking. It would get the job done but it lacks a lot of features I look for in a pack for hiking. The back of the pack is padded, but definitely not designed to allow ventilation like a hiking pack. There is only one easy access pocket on the exterior of the pack, and no water bottle pockets. The waist strap is a nice feature but isn't padded in any way. I would also want a chest strap if I was going to really load this pack down and then hike with it.

That said, I didn't buy it for hiking -- I have a couple of hiking day packs already. I wanted a backpack to fly with, to carry to work with my computer, and to throw clothes and gear into for day trips to the mountains. It works for all of those things extremely well, looks nice, and seems to hold up. You can fit a lot in it, but you can also cinch the top part down if you don't have much in there.

Great backpack

This multipurpose backpack is great for almost any trip or journey. Ive used it for school, day hikes, and long trips as well. It holds a computer and multiple text books with excess space, as well as it being stuffed to the brim full of clothes for a 5 day road trip. The adjustable straps keep smaller packs together, but if loosened can hold a large amount of gear for any occasion. Would highly recommend this Patagonia backpack

    From street to slope

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is the perfect backpack to take literally anywhere and everywhere. From city to mountain, it serves all purposes. Wide, open interior with some decent pockets (would love a few more smaller pockets for easy access). The colors are great, and work seamlessly with any occasion. The quality is super durable and I have nothing but good things to say about this pack! Will use heavily in traveling, both in city and wilderness.

Can't Beat Such a Classic Design

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This backpack is perfect for bringing to school, using around town, or for any short hikes! The laptop sleeve fits my 13in Macbook Pro perfectly which makes it super easy to transport to class, and more than enough space in the main compartment allows for 4 to 5 large books to be stored as well. Highly recommend this pack to anyone looking for a stylish but simple backpack to use around town!

    Perfect, simple backpack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been using this backpack for several weeks now and love it. Feels very durable. The main compartment fits more than I expected (I've packed it with shoes, gym clothes, laptop, textbook, my lunch, and it was still comfortable to carry), and the top-loading lid means you can pack it to overflowing as long as you can still strap it shut. The pockets in the front (which is as big as the entire front of the backpack) and the lid are as many as I need for organization.

My only tiny complaints are that a water bottle holder would be nice (but I just hook one on with an s-biner) and when the main compartment is full, it makes the front pocket harder to access (because it's pulled tight).

    Surprisingly Spacious and Waterproof

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got this backpack for weekend adventures, travel, and toting around on kayaking and short hiking trips. The first time I used it I threw it into a puddle of water in my kayak and splashed it a few times. I had my stuff in dry bags inside but the backpack itself repelled water and was totally dry when I took it out! Amazing! Its also 26 liters and adjustable so there is plenty of room for gear. It also has a waist strap for longer treks. Love Patagonia and this product... not to mention how cute it is. :)

Does this pack have a hydration port? If not can the laptop sleeve be used as one?

    Hi Kyla,

Thanks for the question. Although this pack is not designed to be hydration compatible, I think you could easily accommodate a hydration bladder inside. Because of the fold over way the pack closes, you could run the hose through either side. The only modification you may have to do is get a small carabiner to hold the top vertical, which you could just attach to the webbing closure for the lap top. Let me know if you have any more questions about this pack or anything else on the site. Lisa
