    Game changer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 158lbs

This jacket has noticeably more stretch than the other Stretchdown offerings. At first glance, I thought the new-look was for show (it looks damn good) ; but it seems to be made secondary to increased technical down warmth and design improvements. Keep in mind: This is a fairly heavy, puffy jacket that is probably better as a stand-alone than a mid-layer due to its heat (and moisture) retaining properties. Put a shell over this, and you will be bulletproof against the cold! WARNING: It does NOT fit true to size!!! It is literally the only jacket I have ever bought in a large size, as the medium surprised me as being very tight in the arms and shoulders.

    Perfect Just Got Better

MHW took a great jacket and simply improved it. I did not think there could be any improvements made, but they did. When I first saw the DS, I was not a huge fan of the look. The new pattern on it was not too appealing at first, but then I realized it was designed for a specific reason. The new pattern allows it to compress down even smaller than the original StretchDown jackets. Therefore, now you have all the benefits of the StretchDown jacket with even more compressibility. I definitely recommend this jacket. I found it to be true to size.

Feel free to reach directly out to me for any questions about this jacket or your next big expedition trek!

How does it seem to fit across the chest? I have MH Thermostatic jacket (in a small) from 2012/2013, that has gotten a bit tight across the chest; not as noticeable around town, but definitely when on the trail with a pack on. I remember looking at the medium, but the problem was the torso would have just been way too big.
I'm looking to upgrade, and I'm trying to decide between the hooded DS, the RS and the Ghost Whisper.

      Jeff,
I have the Hooded Ghost Whisperer in an XL. I am 5'10" and last winter weighed 236 lbs, heavy but athletic build. It fit with room to layer a base and light hoody, I usually went with a BD CoEfficient Hoody and it was not too tight. I could also get an XL Mountain Hardwear Stretch Ozonic over it for waterproofing. I am now just under 200 lbs and I find the Ghost Whisperer hoody to be very roomy. I'll be able to layer numerous times or I'll simply have too much room. I have gone to a L in the Stretch Ozonic and it fits well but will be getting a L in one of the same jackets you're looking at.
