From the approach to the gear up to the retreat, the Mountain Hardwear Crag Wagon 60L Backpack is designed for optimal convenience throughout all three stages. The contoured frame and padded harness system keep our load stable and the carry comfy on the way in. When at the wall, the front U-zip lets us access our gear without having to blindly dig, and when we're packing up, we close up the front, stand this pack on its flat base to quickly slide our gear in and cinch the top closed. On our scramble out, the coated material and storm flap keep our gear protected from the rain we were hoping to outrun.

Amazing bag for climbing
I really love my new cragging bag. It's very spacious, and the U zip in the front is super handy to access gear quickly. I'm a petite 5'3" and the s/m fits well, although I wish they made an sx.

Amazing pack, good for shorter spines/women
I thought about getting this pack for MONTHS. I wanted it based off the reviews and the fact that only 2 companies make a S/M length crag pack of this caliber, Mountain Hardware and Black Diamond. I am so glad I got this pack. As a climbing guide and frequent recreational climber, I am in and out of this pack multiple times a day. I no longer yard sale my entire pack as the base of a crag. With so many pockets, sturdy zippers, how much gear it eats up, the ability to stand on its own, and comfort ability make this pack a dream. Also durable so far, no holes and this pack lives on granite. Recommend Still with there was a women's version as the spine is still a little long for me but I'm 5'4 with a short torso. Everything but a women's small torso is large on me.

Great features but not a great carry
I unfortunately returned this. I love the features but the lack of a suspension system to carry that load comfortably made it a deal breaker. If I actually loaded it completely full with triples and an 70m ropes my hips, shoulders and back couldn’t handle it. Although this is common with more climbing focused brands for some reason they like to give you a sufferfest before the climb. I prefer a pack from some of the backpacking brands that provide a better carry for large loads. I did however decide to keep the 45L version as my everyday crag bag in Joshua tree.

Coach’s favorite
This is a bit big for recreational climbing purposes, but works wonderfully for guided day trips with groups.

Bomb Proof
I love this bag so much already after one use. Everything was built with purpose. Love the clamshell opening and the briefcase handles for moving to the route next-door. Interior gear loops keep my draws and anchors neat. Rope mat is HUGE and has a cinching strap. Stands upright very easily and the top opening is massive. Could fit about twice as much as I needed with the extra room on top. I don't have a guide book for the front pocket but I might put a water bladder there instead because sadly there is no water bottle slots on the side. (doesn't mean you cant fit them inside the bag)

Fantastic crag pack
I’ve been using this pack for three years and have nothing negative to say about it. Burly material, burly zipper, great packing and unpacking options, easy access.

One of the best DESIGNED packs out there…
… with one of the worst productions ever. Unfortunately. In ~2.5 years, I have gone through TWO of these packs. I probably would not have felt compelled to write a review, but after looking at the description today and MH writes “durable” to describe it, well, i just have to disagree. I take care of my gear. I am a weekend warrior almost every single weekend. So at a price point at which this is at, i expect the gear to last. This pack is EVERYTHING I want in a pack. SUPER well designed. Love that I can access and pack easily, and the handles on the inside are fantastic for quickly moving your pack to the next climb without having to pack everything up. I love the front pocket, do wish it was like a dual zipper in a U shaped, because when opening it up, things tend to slide out. But it can be avoided by simply utilizing the two pockets provided in that front sections, or tilting the pack on its side. The hip belt is AMAZING, it’s not overly engineered and fits my hips very well. I love the adjustable straps everywhere, easy to carry a load. I do wish there was a pocket on the hip for keys or a quick snack given when wearing the pack, its hard to access the front pocket without things falling out. Now the cons.. In both packs, the frame at the bottom has torn through the absolutely way too thin fabric, and then snapped. This is a 60L y’all… there should be a frame in there designed to carry weight. My partners pack has done the same (the frame tearing through the fabric), and our two friends who have the same pack, same thing. It’s not just me. When the frame breaks, you can still use the pack, but eventually the back will start to cave in, and then the entire load is put on your shoulders. There are some smaller issues like the outside fabric tears easily at the will of briars. Buckles broke super easily on both packs, first pack was the chest buckle, and second pack was the waist buckle. Buckles are cheap right, easy to replace? You would think, but when trying to match the size they are not actually standard sizes carried by outdoor gear shops. I did reach out to CS, and although super nice to talk to, they told me they don’t carry the spare parts to replace the buckle. Super unsustainable y’all. This was a year and a few months ago, and so since the frame was broken i just coughed up the money to buy a second one. Honestly we should have the right to repair the pack by ordering replacement parts, or sending back to get fixed. Y’all…. I REALLY REALLY love this pack. Mountain Hardware makes amazing gear. Truly, all my clothes have held up over years. But I’m not sure the same could be said about the gear. :( My heart wants to give this pack a 1 star, but it truly is in concept, the best crag pack out there. Deserving of 10 stars, but at it’s price point to longevity ratio, sorry MH, two stars you get.
