Great Spring/Summer Shell
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Large
I have had this for about a month and had plenty of use. Great light shell to bring with for spring ski touring when winds pick up on ridgelines. Has kept me completely dry through long rainy hikes/trail runs. Packs down light. Overall love it. 6’4” 180 and large is perfect size. Runs tighter but I can fit a fleece/light puff underneath. I imagine using this quite a bit in the PNW

Great light weight jacket
I run hot and this can be a challenge in high output sports when it is raining and or wet snow. The Nordwand allows me to keep dry but not over heat. Does not have pit zips but pack down to the size of a 355ml beer. I have been running this jacket for about a year and it is always in my pack but used sparingly - currently no durability issues.

Super lightweight and packable, now I have no excuse to leave a waterproof out of my climbing pack. The water repellent finish has been very durable so far, water just beads off it and the fit doesn't restrict movement. If i wear this jacket hiking then I do notice the lack of hand pockets but it's perfect for climbing/mountaineering when they'd just be under the harness anyway.

Chose this jacket as an additional layer for backpacking in. Very happy with how small it packs and how it fits. Has been great on rainy and windy days in the rockies.

Nordwand Light Jacket
I just finished a three week bike packing trip in the Canadian Rockies, and the Mammut Nordwand Light Jacket performed very well. It kept me warm and dry, was very comfortable, and the helmet compatible hood worked perfectly with my bike helmet. It also packs up extremely small, so it took up hardly any space in my fork bag when not in use. I think this jacket will work very well for days on the ski hill.

Excellent all-purpose shell
Some may say a lack of pockets is a bad thing, but I love the simplicity of this light weight shell. Has been great for bikepacking, ski touring, etc. it keeps me dry in the worst of conditions and layers well over my other jackets/baselayers. Not to be forgotten-it packs small into a included stuff sack. Go buy this! I have been buying more Mammut products of late and have not been disappointed.

Now an essential item to bring everywhere
Very satisfied with this purchase. Good fit, high quality, and packs small. I lost my Convey Tour Hooded jacket which I had in a medium and it felt a little bit small. Needed a replacement and saw this gem was 60% off in a good color (Arumita - Orange). Using my previous experience, I ended up with a Large and it is a perfect fit to layer with and will be slightly loose with just a tshirt which wont be an issue. I'm 6'0, 175, and have been wearing a midlayer and light puffy under it while skiing. Pretty wild in 15F and wind up at Mt. Bachelor during an absolute bomber powder day it performed more enjoyable than my Arcteryx Theta hardshell. A previous user was right that it is almost a windbreaker lightness/thickness but it performs and breathes like a true hardshell. Super light, blocked wind, good color, and can zip fully up past my chin. On the final zip at an angle it kind of catches but is not a big deal once used to it. Chest pocket is huge, too big for my iphone. Ended up throwing my go pro in the chest pocket with room to spare. No other pockets on the jacket. No pit zips needed because of breathability. I was concerned about the wrist cuffs not having velco, but they stretch easily over my gloves and stay put. It is a pretty sweet jacket, comes with a separate bag that you can stuff it into. About the size of fist. Main idea was to use for skiing as an outer shell, which check! And it will also be a dream for backpacking or an emergency layer when backpacking/travelling in the PNW. It's so versatile I don't see myself not bringing it everywhere I go.

Emphasize "light"!
This is by far the most light weight rain jacket I've ever had. I wanted a replacement for summer mountain backpacking and first impression had me wondering if it would hold up to any of the rigors of the backcountry. On first inspection it would be ideal for runners, cyclist, paddlers, etc. who stay out of the trees but this makes me a hair nervous for what I do most. I havent put it through anything yet but an in town downpour and I'm pleased there. I'll update after some time on the rock and with a pack.
