Why We Like The Duo Pad

All our bouldering blues are done away with when we head out for an afternoon of sending blocks with the Mad Rock Duo Pad. The Duo's extra strap attaches our second pad to a daisy chain system so we can carry all the ground-fall protection we need in one fell swoop. With our eye on the highball prize, we conserve energy to really give our problem a strong effort by strapping on the Duo with its convenient soft-molded EVA hipbelt and load-lifting straps to carry the load efficiently.

Economical yet good quality and effectiv

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is an economical pad that is good quality and does its job well. It is not as stout as the Petzl but it costs a lot less, which is important when you are trying to cover a large area with pads.

Great for the price

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This was by far the cheapest pad I could find, and it doesn't seem like the quality suffers a great deal from other pads I've used. Maybe not as sleek in design as others, but bottom line, it's going to prevent an injury if you land on it from a bouldering fall, and isn't that what it's all about?

Pretty OK

This is fine pad. I got it on sale. It is a better value than the mad pad. It is a more useful size and has lots of good ways to carry stuff. There is kind of a lot going on with the doormat and straps everywhere, but it works. I use this in my home climbing gym it is good for that. on sale It wasn't much more expensive than buying foam. This is not a firm pad. I have read lots of reviews that it is, but it is not! I am 140 and using this for an 8 ft boulding wall in my garage. It is good for that. The edges and the hinge are soft because the foam is not bonded together in the pad and the cover does not fit that tight. I like pads with angled hinges they feel safer, this pad just has a flat normal hinge. There is velcro on 3 edges. 1 flap and 2 strips, different from the picture. I wish it had 2 flaps and 2 strips so you could arrange it going either direction. I would not recommend this pad at full price, there are better options. I am happy with this at a discounted price for my home gym, but I would recomend other options at full price. I have a metolius magnum that is better quality all around. tighter cover, stiffer foam that has the layers glued together.

Great pad w/ lots of features

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Nice big thick pad. Can't speak to durability yet but it's got a lot of nice features: convenient handles, system for carrying a second pad works well, adjustment straps for comfortable carry. I am a little concerned seeing the stress the cover gets put under when carrying a second pad, which seems like a possible failure point, but if you're really worried about it you can always strap the pads together (though I suppose this obviates the pad carry system). Anyway, features aside, its a nice big thick pad. Feels good to fall on.
