We're really impressed by how ultra sticky rubber gives the sole of the La Sportiva Ultra Raptor Trail Running Shoe grip where other trail runners slip. We race along roads, pick through rock gardens, and pound down steep descents without worry.
Dynamic midsole cushioning reduces the impact of every foot strike, a rigid toecap guards your toes against rocks, and the unique Impact Brake System uses angled sole-lugs to reduce stress on your joints when you're running up or down a steep slope. Go the distance with this neutral, stable trail shoe.

Excellent Trail Runner
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 43.5
I am now on my 4th or 5th pair of these shoes because they are so awesome. Packed with trail-friendly features including a sole tread pattern that grips dirt, sand, rocks, and snow like duct tape. My favorite feature is the polymer heel supports attached to the sides which prevent you from rolling your ankles if you step on a deceiving rock. These shoes have prevented me from spraining my ankle every single time I stepped on a bad spot over the last 3 years. As for sizing, I wear a street shoe size 9-9.5 and I have used the size 43.5 in the Ultra Raptors. This size leaves a lot more toe room than I thought I needed but I found out that this makes descents heavenly?no toes rubbing against the front at all! These shoes seem to run narrow but it is really that they run long and small, forcing you to size up. I think this is done on purpose to give you more toe room as I described. The only downside is that they only last about 6-9 months of consistent trail-only running before the soles are worn out, which is actually a long time for running shoes. They will last a shorter time if you use them for street running so I would recommend reserving these for the trail and getting a dedicated street shoe. Kudos to Backcountry for their great coupons and great customer service!

Heal blisters
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Sole insert curls up at the heel creating a horizonal ridge. Have worn three times at five miles each and have a blister on both heels that matches the ridge. Will attempt to get a heel insert that may smooth out this ridge

Great Trail Runner for Backpacking
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 47

I have used these shoes for over 2 years and have over 2000+ miles on them (based on 3 separate pairs). What do I like - great traction - both uphill and downhill, comfortable yet supportive, rubber toe cap protects my toes when hitting rocks/roots, dry quickly when wet, laces never wear out, heel cup fits perfectly, enough room in the toe box. I like them so much I always have and extra pair in case they stop making them. The only caution - I have a D width and they would not work if you have wide feet. Also, I would suggest you get at least a full size larger than your normal shoe length to give your toes room on steep descents. I wear a 11.5 normally and started out with a 12.5 (46.5) and eventually moved to a 13 (47).
