Needs Longer Laces
It's a great quality shoe. Gives lots of ankle support. That being said, the shoe is difficult to put on because there isn't enough laces so the shoe doesn't open up much at all for the foot to go in. This isn't good for a kids shoe. As a result I have to really battle with my child to get the shoe on, which makes my kid not want to wear the shoe. I'm probably going to end up cutting the laces off completely and putting new ones on so that I can get the shoe to open up more. I also wish this shoe was wider. It runs narrow from toe to toe. It also runs small from toe to ankle. My son normally wears a size 12 and we used the shoe size guide and determined he needed a KEEN size 13. But even going one size up, the shoe barely has any wiggle room. KEEN needs some parents on their design teams.

Waterproof - NOT
I am very disappointed actually, I bought these boots for my son to enjoy the outdoors as that’s what we like to do. I own a pair of Keen’s boots and I can’t complaint. However, my son’s socks after one wet walk are completely drenched! Please explain how do you class these shoese as waterproof??? Our walk was about 20 long and and a tarmac so I cannot imagine anyone walking in these shoes in the woods or harder terrain. I was happy to pay the price, I really did, as I wanted for my son to enjoy being outside etc. But I am very disappointed. Why do you advertise the boots are waterproof, when they are not? Please can you let me know? Thanks

Great boots - if you can get your child's foot into them.
We love Keen boots for my son and husband because of the wide toe box. But as others have said, these are really difficult to get on. My kid just turned 5 and there is no way he would ever be able to get these on by himself (so I can't send him in them to school because he can't change in/out of his indoor shoes if wearing these). It requires the help of a full-grown adult and some serious wiggling and shoe-horning to get them on his feet. I kept them because they are great for family hikes and activities where he has a parent with him. I wish they were just the basic 2 strap velcro like other boots Keen makes.

The fit
I agree with the other reviews about difficult to get in, but those are amazing once on:smile: So if you have a very active kid and don’t mind a little back and forth putting them on, definitely go for it!

Can’t get on
My two sons have been wearing keens for the last 6 years. Every style from sandals to hiking boots. This is by far the most disappointing purchase I’ve made. The opening is ridiculously small. The boots themselves are great, but are a waste of money seeing as my child cannot wear them.

Foot opening
I read the other reviews on getting the foot in and I too had that problem with my son’s. We fixed it by unhinging/undoing the laces on the top 2 and the space was then super wide and then he would cross them back and put them in. He seems to like it.

Can't get my daughter's foot in the boot
Like all Keen products, these boots are good-looking, durable, and comfortable...one you can get them on. The best kids' shoes are the ones they can get on themselves. My daughter is 8 -- and perfectly capable of putting on her own shoes. Unfortunately, she and I now struggle every morning to get her feet into these boots. Sometimes there are tears. Keen, please fix the opening to these boots. I would not recommend anyone buy these until that is fixed.

Impossible to get foot in
I’m sad because these look really cool and the features seem great, but I literally could not get my son’s feet into these boots. He’s worn two other styles of keen hiking boots without issue but this style is not cut right at the opening. After jamming his foot into one shoe we didn’t want to bother with the other one, it was that difficult to put on. My daughter is in the Big Kids sizes and those ones fit fine, but they’re designed differently with long bungee laces. Unfortunately, the pair she got was defective as one of the hooks popped off within 5min of wearing hers, so neither of my kids ended up with the Ridgedlex model because by the time I went to order a replacement, they were all out of stock!

Difficult to get foot inside boot
Once the boot is on my 5 yr old, he says they're comfortable and enjoys wearing them. But they don't open up wide enough to get his foot in easily, and he has normal width feet. The elastic cords don't loosen much so it is a real fight to squeeze his foot in through the opening every morning with him and an adult working hard. They are sturdy, comfortable and they were expensive, but I may still suck it up and replace them before he outgrows them because they are such a pain in rear to put on every day.
