damaged my ski tips + tails too short

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    Pros:
The tip connector does attach the skin to the ski, mostly.

    Cons:
The tip connector is just a metal loop with two springy sections and two hard sections. You're supposed to wrap 3 inches of your skin tip around the loop and fold it back on itself, using the skin adhesive to hold it together. There are several serious flaws with this:
    1. The springy sections wrap tightly around the edge of the ski tip. Whenever the ski flexes or the skin shifts or you just pull the skin tight, those metal edges will gnaw at your ski. Some ski materials might be OK with this, but after just a few uses, my Blizzard Zero Gs had a chip taken out of one corner. Plastic ski deck + metal spring + pressure = 💩
    2. The connection method relies on your skin's adhesive, which is fine for the first few runs, but once things get messy and you've taken the skin off a few times, it starts to be a bit iffy. When I hang the skins up to dry the tip connector always ends up falling off and I have to keep track of it and re-"install" it every day. Plus you don't want to be guy at the top of the run who rips his skin off in deep powder only to have the tip connector fly off and have to go look for it while his friends are shredding. Bad style.
    3. The thickness of the loop, plus the skin going around it, means that snow gets packed between the skin and the ski, as well as between the skin and the loop - encroaching on that ever-important section of adhesive that keeps the whole thing together.
    4. I didn't have 3 inches to spare (required for wrapping around) since I was modifying my old skins to work with new skis. I had measured the skins beforehand but didn't realize I'd need several extra inches to make it work. Plus, the tail connectors provided were shorter than my previous K2 ones, so it adds up to the fact that my skin is too short to use both the tip and tail connectors. Buyer beware on that one.

Nevertheless, I did play around a bit with the tail connectors - enough to realize that if I used them they may also bite into the ski and leave marks. Yikes.

Basically, i could have done a better job with a coat hanger and some heat shrink tubing. I might just return these and go ahead and do that, or cough up for something with proper connectors and a loop material that won't damage my ski *cough* BD *cough*.

    Work work work

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Decided to get an extra pack of essentials just in case I go too hard. Well I'm glad I did because one of the straps broke because I was silly and went back country skiing and hit a solid patch of ice. But man they took a beating and I was surprised they lasted that far! Very great buy, don't hesitate!

    Unanswered Question

In the picture it doesn't show any way to attach the tail clip to the plush. Does this kit only work on G3 skins or can I attach it to any plush regardless of manufacturer?
