And if the border guard starts asking a few too many questions, you can suddenly ‘remember’ the extra fifty you cached in one of the front flap pockets.

Great sun and water shirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: small
  • Height: 5'8"
  • Weight: 160lbs

Great shirt for being on the water and hiking. Light and breathable with soft feel. I am buying more of these. This shirt is cut roomy in mid section.

Collar Question

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: L
  • Height: 6'
  • Weight: 165lbs

Does anyone know what the extra piece of material on the back of the collar is for? Columbia Silver Ridge Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's

Yes, it's so you can unroll it one more time out of the collar, to extend the level of sun protection on your back and make the collar "longer" so to speak, where it climbs up higher on the back of your neck. Hope this helps! :)

Love it

This shirt is ideally designed for outdoor work, activities and naturally cools. It’s a smart design and looks good on. The colour is khaki. The sizing can be a bit random however. See my review for the blue one I got. However in this one the med fit perfectly for me. 6ft195 pounds w Long arms.

    Sizing is randomised

I bought this shirt as a Med Fossil. I’m 6ft around 195 pounds. And it fit great. I thought I’d get one in blue and bought a white one for my wife and the sizing was off. Not sure why but the blue ran short in the arms and was tighter across the chest which is a problem for me. Disappointed and will return.

      Nice for casual

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 180lbs

Nice casual relax style. Not a big fan of the collar, but everything else is nice.

      Great Shirt

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 177lbs

Lightweight long-sleeved shirts. Fit true to size. I typically wear Medium - 6'0" 175-180. Breaths well in warm temps, easy to roll up your sleeves.

      Great gift

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Xl
      • Height: 6'3"
      • Weight: 250lbs

My boyfriend initially spotted this shirt at Dick’s but didn’t have his size or preferred color. Luckily, I snagged this shirt just before Christmas in his size and fave color. Xl fits him great - perfect for boating or just wearing it casually to happy hour, etc. (live in FL) ..great, breathable material!

      Silver Ridge Shirt

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 175lbs

The silver ridge shirt is a very versatile shirt. The shirt is very true in size. This ultra-light shirt is in my favorite must have on multi day trips when the sun is beating down I feel relaxed and comfortable with its breathability. Still has little warmth when the day is done.

      Love it.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'
      • Weight: 195lbs

Not as ventilated as some of its counterparts or "next level" (more expensive) versions but the shirt is light, fit is great (athletic fit) and the collar is extra tall for added sun protection. Sharp shirt. Great for camping, fishing, work, or out for drinks.

Runs large in my opinion. Always where a L but a M seems perfect for me.

      Great quality but tight.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 6'3"
      • Weight: 219lbs

Great shirt and very well made. I bought a LG since my chest is 43", like the size chart recommended, but my shoulders are wide 24". I probably should have gone with an XL since it feels a little tight in the back region but all of my other Columbia shirts ran big so I miscalculated.

Comfortable, but not a good travel shirt

The shirt is extremely comfortable and cool, but the amount of wrinkles it has after a wash and hanging up is a bit much. Travel shirts are nice to wash in a sink hang over night and you're good to go. With this you'd have to manage finding a steamer or take the chance of burning it with an iron. By no means am I picky, but didn't expect this as it's marketed as a travel shirt. The Patagonia Sol II is a MUCH better option!!! Wish I could return the two Columbia ones, but doubt BC would take back after being washed : (

        Better than expected

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

        • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this as a gift for my brother for a trip to Ethiopia. He was hiking in the desert and to the Erta Ale volcano and he needed coverage from the sun and something that wicked away sweat and dried quickly. After spending many hours in the hot sun and hiking around, here is his feedback:

The Columbia Silver Ridge shirt did it's job and more. The material was comfortable against my skin, it dried quickly and was easy to remove any smell after washing. Additionally, the higher than normal collar helped protect my neck further than a normal shirt. I went with a bone color due to temperature but I could have easily done just as well with a darker color.

The fit was true to size - 5'10" about 170lbs and wore a medium. It was slightly tapered in the body, the arms are slightly longer and fit me better in the shoulders. Overall I was really pleased with the performance and attention to detail.

        Great Product

This is an item found on my Dad's xmas list item each year and it was a hit once again. I purchased the Carbon color (This is a Blue, not grey) and he loves it. He lives in South Carolina and it is the perfect weight for any outdoor activity he tends to do in the fall, winter, or early spring. This item has plenty of length in the torso and arms and does not appear baggy on him. I know others have complained about the tricky fit, but it fits him wonderfully and he has been pleased with this item year after year. Quality wise, I also have not heard any complaints from him. He tends to take care of his items so they probably last a little longer than most (washing cold and hang dry). The material has held up to days of fishing, hiking, camping, around town use, and travel. He has only requested one each year for additional colors to add to his collection.

        Great but has a lifespan

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'8"

I've had mine for 3.5 years now and have worn it a ton fishing. It is starting to pill on the armpits, chest and lower back now, which is weird to me for this type of shirt. I will be buying another one because the fit is great and it's more comfortable than my $90 ex-officio shirt which is awesome.

        Great Shirt

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: XXL
        • Height: 5'11"
        • Weight: 260lbs

I purchased this in the carbon color. It's really a blue, more than a grey as the name suggests, but it looks great anyway. It looks great and fits great!

I picked up a similar style Under Armour shirt for 5 bucks at a thrift store. I wore it backpacking and after 3 or 4 days the chest pockets began to rub and irritate my skin. There are mesh vents under them which were the perpetrators. Anyone had similar problems with the Silver Ridge? How does it feel under a heavy pack over a long time?
