Tickle me Yelmo.
Yelmo is the Spanish name for the helmets that medieval soldiers wore for protection on the battlefield. Safety is the fundamental pillar of Catlike, and if your theater of war is on the mountain of your next enduro, Catlike's Yelmo is a helmet that should be up for your consideration. It features plenty of new technologies and safety features that create a dynamic and versatile mountain lid.
There are several helmets on the market that have provisions for cameras and lights but the Yelmo is the first helmet that incorporates a GoPro-approved integrated mount designed to breakaway on impacts much like how visors are designed. Other helmets are not required to test impact on helmets with the mounts attached, and they can seriously affect the integrity of the shell in a crash. Good to know, as we want to be able to walk away from a crash and have video to review our user error and share the chaos with our friends.
The retention system of the Yelmo is an evolution of the already excellent MPS eVo that we've used on Catlike's Leaf models. The new fitting system, dubbed FS1, now uses Boa technology adding a precision wheel allowing millimeter adjustments while tightening and loosening the retention system. Additional safety measures include a specific lower structure called Low Nape Protection (LNP) which is designed to extend coverage to your cabeza's occipital area.
We appreciate the detachable visor, whose five points of positioning help shield the sun at any angle while leaving enough space for glasses or goggles. The system is so accommodating, in fact, that we feel the Yelmo might provide the best interface for goggles this side of a full-face helmet. It incorporates a rough surface on the lateral sides to provide additional grip on goggle straps as well as a back hook to hold them in place over the bumpiest technical runs.
The 22 air intakes of the Dual Flow system allow the helmet to retain a compact style and good fit to the head without impacting ventilation. The unique, unmistakable Catlike oval holes are retained and create air intakes that have been designed to improve air circulation and offer excellent head cooling.
We're certainly glad that we aren't fighting to the death on the battlefield, but it's nice to know that when we're combating seconds during our timed runs, the Yelmo provides confidence to push our limits and the integrated camera mount ensures it all gets documented.
