    Prepare for Impact.

The Black Diamond Impact Crash Pad is excellent whether you're a beginner getting your first pad or you're stocking up for some intense highballer you've been eying for a long time. Its polyester ripstop exterior is durable and can handle sliding down rocky crevasses without a tear, and Black Diamond added a PU coating for extra durability and water-resistant protection. Inside the pad, you get one layer of closed-cell PE foam that dissipates the force of your fall, and another layer of high-compression PU foam that keeps the pad sturdy and ready to catch you for many years.

The Impact also features shoulder straps and a waist belt to help you get to your problem with ease, and two handles help your buddies move the pad underneath you while you climb. Its hinge-style fold makes moving from boulder to boulder simple and quick, and the three-strap closure secures the folded pad in place so you can get from the car to the mountains without a hassle.

    It gets the job done

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I also have the Drop Zone pad, but I wanted a folding one for easier transport. After looking around for performance and cost, I found that this one works really well. The fall feels really good, the size is decent enough, and I can still fit a moderate sized pack into the fold when walking around. The only negatives are that the straps aren't that comfortable and there's a lot of dangling belts dragging around when it's in use, but most pads are like. Regardless, I definitely recommend this pad as far as price and performance goes.

    Classic, fit all pad

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you are going to own one pad then this should be the one.

No need to lug around too much mass and yet the perfect fall-zone size for the boulderer flying solo. Plus, with 4 inches of thickness it will match up to a lot of the larger pads out there if you are building a multi-pad fall-zone. No need to roll any ankles on uneven pad heights.

This pad is sweet, the foam has a harder layer on top but thicker softer foam below it making high ball falls feel more secure. This pad isn't very big but with multiple buddies hauling in pads it makes for a great addition to the landing.

    Good Solid Pad

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a good entry level pad. One of the lightest pads I've carried. Like everything BD makes this pad is made to be durable and simple. Shoulder straps and the waist belt are thin but have enough padding for the weight of the pad+ gear without any pain. My only complaint would be the hinge where the pad folds in the middle of the pad should be over lapped a bit to avoid a rolled ankle. I haven't had any problems with it so far but would feel more confident if it was a bit over lapped. Other than that great pad and I would recommend it.
