Pretty good
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Let me start by saying, I got the Orion Blue during the backcountry sale. I think for the 40% off price the quality about matches, although I wouldn't pay full price for this bag. The good - The bag has a very sturdy skeleton. The handle slides up easily. The side carry handles are sturdy. Inside, the pocket organization is great, better than what I've seen from similar items from Patagonia, rei, or coropaxi, and it has a lot of space inside as well as has an extension zipper. The zippers are quite durable, though a little slow. Wheels have an easy to detach system to make it easy to replace. Not too heavy and rolls well. The bad - Mine came with a sticker mark on the front that won't go away, it's also scarred on the back and looks used. The roll handle is fragile. It comes up a little too easily since there isn't a latch to release it from a closed and locked state and instead of being reinforced, it has one of those push release catches that connects the two extension tubes and every time you put the handle down you have to push the two little aluminum catches in. The wheels are also somewhat flimsy. They're not bad quality, but in both cases I'd rank the handle and wheels as medium quality. In comparison to similar models from rei or Patagonia, the handle and wheels are not quite as strong. My last complaint is that in the photos the models all look quite shiny, but in reality, the color is more muted. It is a durable finish on top but not the same as the rip stop fabric of the rei luggage or black hole bags. For the price and as a carry on, I'm quite happy with it, but at full price I think there are better options out there. I also would balk at checking this bag, it's light and fast and good for a carry on, but it won't stand up to many of the beatings checked bags go through.
