    Phantom 2.0

DPS is promising skiers and snowboarders that you'll never have to rewax after applying Phantom to your skis or snowboard. Its permanent, one-time application actually hardens the bases to make them faster, and it maintains a consistent speed across a broad range of temperatures. Also unlike most waxes, the Phantom's patent-pending polymer compound is environmentally friendly and won't ruin snow in watershed areas.

    2.0 is a nice improvement on 1.0

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had 1.0 for 100+ days on my daily driver board last season (got in on the kickstarter deal) and put 2.0 on my newer board for this season. 2.0 is definitely a bit faster but a lot of it comes down to the application process. I would suggest waiting until part a dries 100 percent then scrape off the excess, rotobrush as they suggest in the guide before doing part B. Once applied it is by far faster than any general all temp wax I have used, and i'm always gliding past everyone on the catwalks. With that being said you should also buy a drill roto nylon brush, or copper brush to clean dirt out of the base every 4 or 5 days of riding for max performance. While cleaning/brushing dirt out of the base out isn't really discussed anywhere it is kind of necessary or the performance drops off significantly after a week of riding. It still beats waxing all the time though. I would also only bother investing in this if your board has a sintered base, extruded bases are slow and you would be better off putting the hundo towards a better board if your base is extruded.

In the photo you can see how after 3 days of riding and about 80,000 ft it needs to be cleaned.

Thanks for the great review! Can I ask, you only roto with a nylon brush right? There's no need to use a horse-hair or cork brush with Phantom in your opinion? Semi new to all of this... not sure if those are for wax only.

Bought last year. Applied as instructed. I have been snowboarding for 15+ years. After applying it, It has seen Whistler BC, and numerous resorts here in CO. Seen 12” of freshies in BC, and every other type of condition here in CO. I was unimpressed from the start. I know Breck like the back of my hand, know how much Speed I need in certain parts, and have noticed a decline from when I would hot wax my board. With hot wax I’m flying down the flats at 4pm, avoiding all the Jerry’s, and floating effortlessly. Since applying phantom, it’s so so. For 100$ and such semi-outlandish guarantees, I expected more. AVOID, unless you want to keep having to hot wax your board even after dropping a hundo on this.

You indicated you bought last year, so it sounds like you have last years version. THis is the 2.0 and the application process has been greatly improved to prevent any issues. The instructions for this version gives a much shorter application time and a bit more help in the process.
