Big Air Pilot Package

One of my favorite belay devices. It's straightforward and very user friendly. I've used several assisted breaking belay devices but I always find myself reaching for this one. It catches well (I haven't tried using a different carabineer) and lowering is easy on both the belayer and the climber. I also like how lightweight it is.

Safe and simple

Really intuitive, inherently safe and super simple. Not as fancy as a grigri but also way less expensive. Ambidextrous operation is a big plus for some. I think this is also simpler to understand than a Grigri especially for newer belayers and seems to work better for people with smaller hands. Lowering is smooth and intuitive. Works great, I like it a lot.

Love the Pilot

I love the Pilot! Great belay device. I've never been a big fan of the grigri because of its many pieces and parts. The pilot is a single piece and is super simple to use. The only thing I don't like is that it is partially made of plastic. If it was completely made of metal then it would be perfect! I definitely recommend this to everyone!

Great belay device

I had been using the black diamond ATC for years to belay. I was looking for something else with a little extra safety built in for teaching my young niece and nephew how to belay and this was perfect. They way it catches falls and is super easy to lower makes it the perfect device to teach beginners on. It's a must have for your rack.

This is a bust have for single pitch sport climbers! The carabiner prevents cross loading and fits great with the pilot. The device it’s self is awesome, catches all the whippers with minimal force on the belayer. Barley have to apply any pressure with your break hand. Takes a second to learn to lower smoothly but after that learning curve the device is perfect!

Great combo and easy to use!

I love this ATC and biner combo! I am new to belaying and the assisted braking and easy lowering made me feel really comfortable. The carabiner feels great, it does require a little extra work since you need to essentially open it twice to get it hooked onto the belay loop the the ATC, but I still enjoy it.

My new favorite tool

I've used an ATC for most of my years in climbing, and other belay devices along the way, but tended to go back to the ATC/Guide ATC. I ordered some of these for our mountain guide service, and I'm sold. With Ice climbing, it doesn't get Ice buildup like other belay devices, and it's much smoother and controllable. I plan to switch over to these more than the grigris now for our novice climbers. Great product!

Excellent but not the carabiner

I think that most of the products of BD are absolutely well designed and functional. I decide to try ATC Pilot with its carabiner. Result: I raccomend the ATC Pilot but not the carabiner. After a 6 monts of use the carabiner is very marked by the abrasion of the rope. I have to look for a steel carabiner that well works with the ATC. I suggest BD to produce a "Steel" GridLock Screwgate Carabiner.
