Not for drop bars
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:
- Runs large
The concept is good, but these did not work well with my 3T Ergonova Team drop bars. Wolf Tooth maintains a list of "known incompatible bars" on their site, and the Ergonovas are not on that list at time of writing. I recently got a new gravel bike, and I purchased these tools to carry with me, since they check all the boxes I want for use on a bike with tubeless tires, thru axles, and disc brakes. On my second ride with these, I tried to pull out the bit driver to tweak my seat position and the plug end ripped off the sleeve. I threw the plug in my pocket and rode home with dead weight in my bar, hoping that I wouldn't need to get at the tubeless kit or chain tool in my other bar end. At home I had to use pliers to remove the stuck tool and sleeve. Later, I tried fitting the tool with the remaining sleeve, and the exact same thing happened. I would not recommend buying this product for use with drop bars. If you are adamant on using these with drop bars, see if you can find them in a local shop and confirm they fit in your bars before you buy. They are not packaged in such a way that you can return them after test fitting them if you buy them from Backcountry.

I have had this guy for a couple of months and do truly enjoy it. The one time I truly enjoy having this tool kit is when I fly with my bike. I can store everything in the bars and don't have to worry about the extra weight of shop tools and have everything I need to assembly my bike when I get to my destination(just to mount and adjust the bars I need a t20,4mm,3mm, and a 2.5mm) The magnets keep the bits in perfectly and to be honest to the bits are a little harder to get out if you don't have fingernails and have big fingers like my self. I have had it installed in both alloy and a carbon 35 clamp bar and I noticed a huge difference in the material that the bar is made out of as well when it came to getting the tools out of the bar ends. When I had it in my alloy bars it was a lot more difficult to get out and the rubber casing wanted to grip more to the alloy. This even resulted in the metal end cap coming unattached from the actual case and the tool getting stuck in my bar until I could find a stick to push it out with. My solution to this was a very very thin layer of slick honey suspension grease which allowed the case to come out a little smoother. After the one small layer of slick honey, it had a whole lot less resistance to coming out of the bars and I never had that problem again. When I switch to the carbon bars I cleaned the cases and installed them and from the beginning, it was smooth as butter and super easy to remove and put back in.

Good Concept ..Poor quality stranded me!

Excited to get this tool! Works super well as far as storage in handle bars. Quiet no rattling as promised. I do need to use my tire lever to get them out. I have used the multi tool and the tire plug these work well. Had not used the chain tool until today when my wife’s chain snapped 8 miles into the mountains. Wasn’t worried , had the chain tool. Put the chain tool on aligned it to the proper link pin and as soon as I added pressure the tool bent. It is soft metal and not hardened. We were left stranded by the wolf tooth chain tool on its first ever use. Extremely extremely disappointed! Like the concept but the metal quality sucks. Makes me worry about the other tools as it looks like they are made of the same metal! I’m not sure I would purchase this again!
