Why We Like The Weston Hatchet Snowboard

When a fresh snowstorm gives us the chance to make first tracks, the Weston Hatchet Snowboard is our powder-seeking companion. Weston's short-and-wide offering is a directional twin with a lengthened nose and generous deck for boosted float in the freshest snow. "Twinish" rocker tips keep our ride playful whether we're dodging trees or buttering down groomers, and camber underfoot keeps our carves and downhill bombs speedy and stable.

Used this board on a 30” pow day at Crested Butte ski resort in Colorado and this board never disappointed. From keeping my speed up on big flat pow fields, to pillow popping down steep technical lines. They had the whole resort open and I was able to ride it on all sorts of terrain. Love the short fat board for jibbing and logging too.

Great all around board! What I love about this board is the width of this stick and ability to ride low angle powder with it. The only thing keeping me from 5 star is the weight of it. Besides that absolutely stoked on it. You can charge in all east coast conditions.

I love the hatchet and it's my board that I ride everyday when on the ski area. The wide base and perfect shape for riding in powder and even the way you can carve and butter around on groomers with the underfoot camber. I'll even take this thing through the jump lines in the park and have a blast styling some grabs. Can't say enough good things about this board so if you're on the fence or just looking to grab one don't wait any longer and you'll be having so much fun out there on this thing in no time!

Solid option for big boot dudes

I had the pleasure of taking this board out and good lord did it impress! For some context, I'm a big dude with big feet, riding a size 13 boot and weighing in at 305lbs. While this is a powder board, I found it insanely fun ripping groomers and dodging trees. I don't think this would have had enough surface area for any decent float for a dude my size, it really shined in the trees! I could jump turn on a dime, and it was stiff enough to deal with the hard packed snow conditions I had. My only complaint was expected, it was so short it was hard to lean into the nose or tail at all without running out of room. Going through bumpy terrain at speed was difficult to find out where to put my weight, and it was hard to get presses any height without running out of board. Overall, its a super fun option for guys with bigger feet, and I'd imagine it would be a great option for lighter dude with big boots. Definitely not a quiver killer for us big guys, but a really fun addition!

Another Hit From Weston

This is the 4th Weston board I've ridden now, you could say I'm a fan of the company. I own the backwoods and it is a phenomenal board but now I find myself wishing I had tried this out first. Warning: This is -NOT- for beginners and intermediates. If you are still skidding your turns, you're gonna have a bad time. This is a burly board, and it requires an experienced rider. If you're not sure if your skill level is quite there yet, I'd get something else. Pros: - The wide shape makes landing any jump, no matter how bad the landing or which direction you're going in, absolutely stable and amazing. - This thing carves up a dream, no heel or toe drag here. You can carve as deeply as you want and in any shape you want. Long and Narrow? Yes. Short and wide? Believe it or not, also yes. - Freestyle chops for days. I'm not the best freestyle rider but I had absolutely no problem throwing and landing 180s, doing nose butters, nollies, etc. That being said, it was tough to butter. - If you are a strong rider and in the correct weight range, it will be nimble enough through the trees. Especially in fresh snow. Cons: I'm going to preface this by saying I'm 5'7" and 145lbs with size 8.5 boots. This board would much better suit someone who was 5'10"+, 170+ lbs, size 10+ boots. It's volume shifted so you should ride it 7-10cm shorter than your normal board and I normally ride a 152. - This thing takes some serious leg muscles if you really want to turn fast and have fun. I've seen other reviews call it a slow turner, it only turns slow if you don't put muscle into it. This board can be quick edge to edge if you're strong enough. - Butters were very difficult for me at anything but breakneck speeds, again this is due to me being a bit small for the board. That being said, if you're fast enough it butters like a dream and pow butters were AMAZING. - Maybe not the best resort board, I had issues getting off the lift after midday. The nose of the board is 31.8CM wide and it doesn't really fit into the grooves that form around noonish when you're getting off the chair. Had me feeling like I was brand new again a few times. Conclusion: Absolutely amazing board, I think I'd like it best in a split version for backcountry stuff. If you are experienced and strong enough this board will have you smiling ear to ear. Weston does it again, no surprise there.
