Our family uses our gear. We spend serious time in the back country. Good gear makes it possible for the kids to spend time in inclement weather just as much as I do. (It is crazy that we would "dumb down" kid gear. No wonder they whine!). This shell is rugged. My 10 yo loves the stretchy fabric. The taped seams means he stays dry during extended downpours. My only issue is that it is not as compressible as some other shells, which means the shell takes a larger volume of his pack than it could. Still, the comfort outweights this minor down-side.
