After hitting the gym hard over the off-season, the 29 x 2.6-version of the Schwalbe Nobby Nic Tire is beefed up just short of plus-sized territory for the long trail season ahead. This version retains the sought-after attributes that made the original a favorite of trail riders and enduro racers, namely its ability to roll smoothly while delivering reliable cornering grip at high speeds.
Its larger volume allows you to drastically lower pressure for unrelenting grip around corners and across trail sections littered with loose rubble and rocks. Since its just short of plus-sized territory, you'll gain the benefits of greater volume with only a weight penalty of approximately 185 grams, when compared to the 2.35-inch version. This is a small price to pay, especially considering the tire's plush feel and added grip.
It's available with either TrailStar or PaceStar compounds, both with Snakeskin casing for greater reinforcement against punctures and blowouts on the trail. The TrailStar compound is best for trail riders and enduro racers preferring extra grip and control when you're charging across technical terrain at speed. PaceStar uses a fast center compound for less rolling resistance, making it ideal for aggressive XC and trail riders preferring a faster rolling tire.
