Nomad Carbon CC X01 Eagle AXS Air Reserve Mountain Bike

Positioned as the mixed-wheel enduro race bike option from Santa Cruz, the Nomad Carbon CC X01 Eagle AXS Air Reserve Mountain Bike is so fun to ride that we also characterize it as a park bike, and even a trail-ready shred sled. The V6 Nomad retains some of its freeride flavor with a 27.5in rear wheel that makes it easier to put that extra emphasis on bike park whips and corners, while the 29er up front helps us pick apart double-black diamond descents with its rollover capabilities. With 170mm of VPP rear suspension, the Nomad is ready for whatever we throw at it, and Santa Cruz revamped the suspension curve with lower anti-squat to limit harshness from square-edge impacts. Modern geo treatment includes an ultra-stable 63.5-degree head tube angle (low position) and a steep 77.6-degree seat tube angle (low position, size large) that provides a perfectly comfortable pedaling position despite the bike’s downhill-oriented intentions. The Glovebox in-frame storage compartment is a favorite among our Herd because we can stash a snack or spare layer along with the included Tool Wallet and Tube Purse right in the frame.

This build leaves little room for improvement with top-shelf offerings across the board, starting with the Carbon CC frame construction from Santa Cruz, which is tested to size-specific stiffness standards for equal ride feel across all sizes. Factory suspension components from Fox include a Float X2 shock and a 38 Float Factory fork with 170mm of travel, supplying a plush ride feel with a wide range of adjustments for dialing in on race day. SRAM's X01 Eagle AXS drivetrain delivers instant shifting that helps us maintain our momentum with last-second shifts. Reserve 30 HD wheels are stiff for responsiveness and lightweight for instant acceleration, and Code RSC brakes deliver industry-leading power for pushing pace in steep terrain.
