Why We Like The Quest Element GTX Hiking Boot
When we are embarking on a big backcountry mission that involves bushwhacking and exploring we turn to the coverage and support of the Salomon Quest Element GTX Hiking Boot. This boot offers a higher then usual shaft that fends off trailside debris, a connected tongue that keeps dirt and rocks out of our socks, and a GORE-TEX laminate that keeps puddles and shallow creeks where they belong.

Great boot, great vomfort
I bought these for my wife, after explaining to her that Salomon’s is what I wore while in the military. She wore them to her job at a “range” that she is an instructor at , and she fell I. Love with the comfort and quality

Great! Waterproof (to a point)! But ouch
I love these boots in every way except how they hurt an inch to 2 inches above my ankle. I don't know what it is...tieing the boots looser helps but doesn't fix the issue. The boots left a red abrasion after a mile hike on very uneven ground (didn't bruise though). I will say, they are waterproof! I walked through low flow rivers (about an inch to 2 inches in depth) without an issue! As far as slipping goes, I've only slipped on a wet log so far (I caught myself). I have gone free bouldering and hiked through mud/rivers. Great experiences! I felt like I had great footholds even with the smooth granite rock. 8/10 would recommend with 2 points taken away for the upper ankle pain. I got an 8.5 and I'm normally an 8. My heels aren't slipping at all but I still have room for warm socks.

Amazing
Love the way these boots feel. Very supportive, grippy soles, generous toe box. I did need to break them in a bit, but it didn't take long. Colors match the photos and I found these to be true to size. 10/10

Not as good as the last version I had
I bought this same model about 9 years ago and they were the best boots I've ever had. I had to throw them away because they started smelling so bad from being wet all the time. This new version is harder to break it, and so far the crease across my toes is still quite sharp, and the top edge of the right boot is sharp and left an abrasion above my ankle after 1/2 a mile. I like how they are roomy enough for different sock thickness and the lug is awesome. If you buy these make sure you give yourself plenty of miles to break them in.

Comfortable but not waterproof
Boots are really comfortable, good for all terrains and provide great support but disappointed about the lack of waterproofness. My socks are wet after walking through a field with heavy dew.

Great Value Boot
A brilliant option to pick up a bargain. Comfortable, waterproof, grippy and supportive. A good looking shoe fit for all weather and terrains. True to size.

While these boots are sturdy and have a good grip, I agree with the other reviews that these boots HURT! I also have been a Salomon boots wearer for years. I backpack minimum of 150 miles per summer and usually have excellent experiences with Salomon boots. But these boots bruised both of my outer shins from being cut so high and stiff on my 22-mile Devil's Causeway Loop. In addition, as others have said, the bottom eyelet cut into the top of my right foot. Won't be wearing again...

Backpacking Comfort
I am very impressed with the Salomon fit for women's shoes lately. These have massive toe room which makes them very comfortable for me. I am a size 8 in most women's shoes but I knew I was 7.5 for this brand - there was so much toe room I was disappointed that perhaps they were too big when I first tried them on. I have since used them on multiple backcountry trips on all kinds of terrain, including incline and downhill, and my toes were very happy! I only have one pressure spot on the side of one foot, which I need to put moleskin over for every trip. That is a bit annoying - but you can't have it all! Overall, I would purchase these again as my go-to backpacking boots.

Very Painful
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These are not designed very well, as the lower lace eyelets dig into the sides of my feet. This brand used to be the best quality but has gone down a lot. Avoid at all costs!
