Keeping us equally fast and comfortable, the Salomon Predict Soc Running Shoe is a swift runner with a sock-like feel. The roomy toe area is all premium-knitted for breathability and flexibility, while the half-booty heel keeps a solid fit that slips in like a glove. Salomon's Energycell+ midsole keeps the cush up for the long haul, and the 8mm drop encourages a quick pace. Contagrip's rubber gives tire-like tread so you can focus on the miles ahead instead of what's underfoot.

I don't know what I expected, and I was quite impressed within the first couple of miles in these. I'm no Cinder-fella fit and I can wedge my feet into just about anything without much protest. As an enthusiast who's outrunning old age and obesity as best I can, I do lean towards some brands and builds over others. I haven't spent a day in Salomon since the Snow Dragon (or was it pipe dragon?) as I watched the ball drop on Y2K, and the return to these was a warm welcome. I didn't expect the traction i felt in loose rocks and the cush muted a lot of jagged edges that would otherwise translate through or alter the course of the shoe. I will be watching these to make sure the next gen isn't altered enough to justify loading up on this one before it disappears.

*I received these shoes for free, but my opinions are honest. While Salomon has decided to maintain this shoe in the road running category this year (FYI is was briefly listed as a lifestyle shoe), I do not agree with this placement in the lineup. As a veteran marathon running I put a lot miles on a lot different shoes (80-100 mpw) and these don't hold up to the wear and tear a typical neutral trainer does at the same price point (Nike pegs., etc.) . Typically this this light and pliable sole will last you approximately 250 miles on the road. If you are looking for a stylish gym shoe, or something to wear out, this is a great show. However if you're looking to log miles like myself, I would recommend checking out the Sonic lineup.

During break-in I felt a little discomfort around my Achilles tendons, as the stiff portion of the uppers was wearing on my skin. But after that initial period I've had no other issues. I find that the shoes fit my narrow feet quite well, and that there is a wealth of cushioning in the soles even though these shoes are very light in weight. While I do wish these shoes were equipped with a tuckable speed lacing system like most of my Salomon trail runners, the lacing system makes for a good fit, and the laces stay tied. The material is quite lightweight, so we'll have to see how durable it is over time, but it certainly makes for a nice, airy feel in warmer weather. I'm not one for "flashy" shoes, but the blue/ebony mix makes for a nice look. [Giving serious thought to buying a set of the ebony/black shoes in a few months.]
