Very disappointing

I've put it through the wringer
True to size
Size Bought

I bought these boots for a 3 month trip to Patagonia where the primary purpose was trekking and hiking and I wore these boots nearly every day on the trip. I have become accustomed to solely hiking in trail runners. For the trip, I knew I needed something slightly more beefy that was waterproof. I was very excited to find this boot because I thought it would be the perfect happy medium. At first, the boots seemed perfect: they looked great, were very lightweight, were very comfortable walking around airports and in town, and didn't need any breaking in. However, these boots did not perform as I would have hoped when hiking and trekking. They were not as comfortable as my trail runners on multi-day treks and provided less support. They were waterproof at first but only a couple of weeks into the trip this waterproof layer broke down and left my feet soggy on many occasions. Somehow water was getting inside the boot under the ball of the foot leaving an oval shaped water spot when walking on wet ground. By the end of the trip, the boots had all but completely fallen apart: the seams were coming apart, the tread was very worn down and peeling back on the toe, the foam cushioning compressed down and gave very little support or shield to sharp rocks, the foam also got torn up and pulled away from the mesh, the mesh got holes in it especially around the toe area, and the boots latch on to foot stink and dirt like I've never experienced before. I really wanted to love these boots but was very disappointed in how they wore down so quickly and did not last through the trip. I have other boots and trail runners that have been put through much worse and longer wear than this trip that far out perform this boot. I would say if you are looking for a casual hiking boot for easy hiking, this will do, but if you are looking to do anything extreme, I would keep looking.

My new everydayers!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have taken these boots out on a few new spring hikes, and I didn't even need to spend any time breaking them in! They are super comfortable right off the bat and provide a ton of arch and ankle support! They are sleek looking and not extra bulky like most hikers tend to look when they have the grip that these do! Definitely my go to hikers from now on, and looking forward to taking them out backpacking this summer and fall! The size fit well. I am a 9, and that size fit me great.

Great Every Day Hiker!

I've put it through the wringer

This boot is great for day hikes and light backpacking/fastpacking. It feels like a sneaker. Lightweight. Flexible. Really nice for moving quickly and confidently through the mountains. I put it through an intense off-trail backpacking trip and it held up great. If you're looking for a hearty backpacking shoe I'd get the X Ultra from Salomon over this, but if you're looking for a versatile do-it-all shoe, this is your jam!

Great boot

Bought these for light hikes. I love the ankle support, hard sole, and the look of the shoe. All around very happy.

Great boots for a narrow foot!

I returned this product before using it

I ended up having to return these boots since they didn't really fit my foot. I don't have a super wide foot, but these were pretty narrow!!! I love the look of these boots and how low-profile they are. These would be a perfect boot for short hikes or even walking around town, probably wouldn't take them on a longer hike though, since they're a softer boot. All in all, they were too narrow for me but I would buy again if they made a wide!

Comfortable, light weight

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I purchased these boots with some guidance from my gear head, Josh. I have long, narrow feet and had already tried 5-6 pairs elsewhere. These run true to size and are great for a narrow foot. The reinforced toe and bottom traction makes these some of the best lightweight boots I could find. They look amazing, too! I typically remove the insoles and insert my custom orthotics, but I don’t think I will have to with these. Can’t wait to hit the trails and break them in! Thank you, backcountry!

Hi Lauren! Stoked to hear that you love them and thanks for the mention :) Let me know what fun adventures you get up to with them!

The One Shoe You Need For A Weekend Trip

If you have to bring one shoe on a weekend trip where you'll be hiking and hitting the town, this is the shoe for you. As a Salomon employee, I was looking forward to trying out this shoe and was excited when they came in right before a weekend trip to the Tetons. Putting 25 miles in over two days, I had no issues. They're lightweight, breathable, and perfect for wearing straight from the trail to dinner in Jackson. I'd recommend going down a 1/2 size, i'm normally a 7.5 and wear a 7 in these.

Salomon Outline Mid GTX - Amazing Boots

I've used it several times

I got the Solomon Outline Mid GTX boots and I have been using them as everyday hiking boots for my normal 2-4 mile hikes as well as at the dog park. These boots were comfortable from day 1, I did make the mistake one day to wear short socks and the high ankle rubbed a bit but that is to be expected. They preform great with normal hiking socks or crew-height socks. My feet are very narrow so finding a narrow boot is some times difficult. The toe-box in the Solomon Outline Mid GTX boots are fairly wide for my foot but the laces have enough adjustability to allow me to tighten them down plenty and they don't shift around uncomfortably on my feet while I'€™m hiking. The Gortex is also an amazing addition. I like all my hiking boots to be gortex just so i don'€™t have to worry about my feet getting wet in any condition I'€™m hiking in or if I’m crossing small streams. I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a good, light weight hiking boots. These are the first Solomon boots I have owned and I am happy to say I will be looking to buy another pair of Solomons once these wear out which I have a feeling will take a while.

Great pic!
