Could be so much better
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 9
- Height:

Per the recurring theme in the reviews, the lacing system is the worse aspect of these boots. The lacing constantly loosens, so the rim of the boots "flower" causing lots of debris to make their way in thus forcing me to stop every now and then to clean up. If Salomon wants to immediately improve upon these, revert to a regular lacing system. Otherwise, I've put some Danners and Lowas through the ringer, but these have been the most comfortable boots out on the trails -- especially on longer hikes. Due to their lighter design and materials, these are built more for speed hiking / day hikes on less technical terrain.

Lacing difficulty
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- 12.5
- Height:
- 6' 4"
- Weight:
- 215
I wanted this boot to work, but laces tighten at top, yet are difficult to tighten evenly over the middle tongue of the boot. So the boot feels loose. Boot flares out over the top lace, allowing pebbles to fall into the the boot. Other than that, very comfortable and light.

Great winter hiker
I bought cross hike mid GTX for walking my two mastiffs daily on the trail. Ground is frozen, wet and muddy. The traction is great and my feet are warm and dry. Best trail shoe yet

Runs small, and slip at the heel
- Size Bought:
- 12
- Height:
- 5' 11"
- Weight:

I am a big fan of Solomon hiking, skiing, and running footwear. I have a high instep and wide foot and often have difficulty with boots/shoes. I am virtually always a size 12 (or 47), and these ran small. Even so, I still had considerable heel slip with them as well. I do not think that sizing up will fix the latter problem. I returned them.

Light Weight Hiker
I have about 50 miles on this shoe so far and am a fan. It feels more like a trail running shoe with more ankle support. Great for moving fast and staying dry.

Needs more eyelets
Good hiking build on the Speedcross frame, but needs more eyelets; doesn’t tighten enough across the tongue. However, not having to tie boots with a traditional lacing system is a huge timesaver and convenience in difficult conditions. Next version could be perfect!

Lacing failure
This shoe is decent. A little slippery on wet surfaces. The huge downfall of the shoe is the lace design. Instead of securing the tounge of the shoe close in, the fast lace design allows for debris to get inside because the tounge sticks out. It will not tuck into pants or even the sides of the ankle support. The speed assault 2 boot has a much better lace design that prevents this. Unfortunately the speed assault isn't protective enough or I would go with them. If you're not going off trail through brush, the speed assault will suit you better.

Love Salomon Shoes
Love all of my Salomon shoes, they fit my super flat cyclist feet, and best of all, no laces! I hate laces on shoes. These look great, and for me, feel great too. I’m no runner, quite the opposite, but I do only purchase Salomon shoes.

Comfortable. But

Boots are very comfortable to wear. But the lacing does not get them or keep them tight
