    Climbing couloirs and traversing glaciers.

Petzl made the Irvis 10-Point Crampon compact, light, and thin for ski touring and mountaineering expeditions. This 10-point crampon has two wide front points to provide a solid purchase on steep couloirs and icy glaciers, and there are Antisnow anti-balling plates for a better performance. The Irvis Leverlock includes step-in Fil or strap-on Fil Flex attachments, and the Irvis Flexlock offers hybrid compatibility with any with a heel welt and without a toe welt.

    Not for large feet/boots

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The Petzl Irvis crampon is not built to support boot sizes over EU 45 or US 10.5. They also do not make an extender base plate bar to adjust for this size fit. Consider the Back Country or Grivel set as they have base plates that work. Attached is a photo of my size 11.5 boot, 13.5" sole length which does not fit into the crampon frame. Know before you buy and have to return.

    Good crampon for ski mountaineering

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I fitted these crampons to a pair of Scarpa Maestrale RS ski boot. The fit was very good, I used the heel lever lock and the included front metal bar attachment. They seem like a good basic crampon, light, rugged, "auto step in" attachment, and includes the anti snow balling plastic plates on the bottom.

These are some of the lightest all-steel crampons on the market, but unfortunately doesn't mention that they won't fit boots larger than Euro size 45 (US 11.5). With older models It used to be possible to buy longer-size linking bars, but apparently not any more.
