Great bag as bags go, but I miss V1

Peak Design does a great job making products that look good and are very functional. This V2 Everyday Backpack is no exception. My only complaints come from being an original "V1" owner. There are several changes to V2 that I don't like compared to V1. Most prominently is side access flaps. On V1 the zippers went so far as to allow the side to swing completely open and stay open. On V2 the zippers do not go as far and the flap must now be held open or it closes. Staying open made the bag great for quick on-the-go access with just one hand. Secondly, on the side flaps, the inside was a fully covered and zippered pocket with smaller pockets within. Now the covering is gone. So the small pockets are just exposed to the inside of the bag. To make that worse, items are only held in the pocket by loose elastic fabric and a single magnet. So small items easily fall into the main compartment when the bag is moved around. Speaking of the loose elastic fabric.. my third complaint is the elastic fabric is thinner and weaker than fabric used in V1. I'm not sure of this was an economic choice or environmental, but it just feels bad compared to V1 and it's used throughout. V1 had a "secret" pocket just behind the latch on the main compartment that as well blended. Now its the loose elastic fabric and doesn't hide thing. On the positive side, the magnets to hold the straps are welcome addition. As well as the extra pockets in the laptop compartment.

Love the adaptability of it

I bought this recently to use as a work bag. It is a sturdy and structured bag so it doesnt lose its shape when carrying my everyday items. I travel a lot and this is my personal item, my essentials fit perfectly in the bag and the divisions ensure that its all in its designated space, but also sometimes i have extra things to carry like a coat and it has enough space inside for it or I can store it outside the bag with the straps.

Love the construction quality and features. The backpack beats many models from other brands I’ve tried.

My office!

Best backpack I've ever had. Always referred to as 'The Office', as it has been with me around Europe on a 5 month campervan-trip, and now living it's everyday life in the triangle between Denmark, Canada and Sicily.

Brilliant versatile backpack

I have had my PD Everyday Backpack for several years now and it is an incredibly practical bag. I am travelling and I am not sure of the exact capacity of the backpack but it is one size smaller that the largest size. But I will start with my one criticism and that is an aspect of the harness. I am 5ft 11in tall and the harness is simply too small for someone of my size as the breast strap is almost across my throat whereas it should be across my chest. without the chest strap it occasionally slips from a shoulder. I believe the top section of the strap with the slots for the chest strap should be at least 2in longer. But now for what I love. Its flexibility. 1. I purchased it as a camera bag but found I also use it for travel as my carry-on. The harness straps tuck away into the back very easily and with three comfortable strong handles it is so easily carried. 2. When I travel I divide it into three compartments: The Bottom for my medication in a small zipped bag, The Middle compartment takes my two cameras (A Fuji XT5 with 16-80mm lens and a Fuji X100VI) and, The Upper compartment, an easily lifted out bag of essentials for flight (headphones, toiletries bag, small shaver etc, plus an iPad and another made up box of medications. It is very easy when reaching my seat to lift out the bag, drop it on the seat and stow the backpack in the overhead locker before the people with their massive illegal sized bags fill the locker!! 3. The two interior zipped side pockets contain spare batteries, power bank, lens brush, charging cables, lens and body caps, spare SD cards etc etc. 4. The external pockets contain a water bottle and small hand held luggage weighing scale. 5. The rear pocket contains a 14" MacBook Pro and a (small - LOL) bag of foreign currency notes. With all of the above I manage to keep the weight to a tiny bit over 7KG The bag is a quality product with the only exception that my lock on the rear is corroding. The zippers are amazingly strong and weather tight.

Looks slick, Is tough.

I have had the 30L Everyday Backback since 2018, literally using it every day. It is just as suited to an office commute as it is to a dusty windy film set in the middle of the wilderness. I can carry all of my equipment (iPad, Laptop, SLR & lenses, nodal head, tripod etc.) plus extra layers of clothing, puffer jacket, sunblock, chargers, batteries... Using the bag is a pleasure, everything is where it should be and easily accessible. The ability to re-configure the internals according to particular needs is unmatched. The build quality is excessive, the slick and attractive fabrics are resilient to dirt and rain and mud. I have no problem placing the bag on the ground, even on a beach, rocky mountain, dusty road or muddy field - the bag wipes clean easily. After 5.5 years, after spending a little time under a rain machine, I realized the top zip was no longer as waterproof as it had been, the weather sealing had worn away. Peak Design performed a warranty swap out with the new 30L V2. This new bag is just as slick as the old one with some welcome minor tweaks and improvements. Would recommend

Solid but still room for improvement...

I've used both the original 20L, and this Gen2 30L extensively over the last 4-7 years. While there's plenty I appreciate about each generation, I still feel like PD needs to combine some of the features from each, and improve other things into a better 3rd generation Everyday pack. From the Original, please bring back the tan/camel color fabric interior. It looks so much nicer and felt more premium. Also, the divider sleeve for the laptop/tablet was much nicer than the flimsy piece of fabric now used in the Gen2. I also really preferred the metal grommet reinforcement with short, perpendicular bartacks on the top strap instead of just the weird straight long lines of bar-tacking that go lengthwise. On Gen2, I prefer the cleaner design with less stitching on the outside of the pack, but that might be about it. Moving the laptop compartment zipper to the other side of the handle is fine, but the squared shoulders on it don't look as cool, and the compartment is still hard to get a computer in/out of when the rest of the pack has stuff in it. Needed improvements on both Gens - while the latch is handy, the big metal tab gets scuffed up easily, and the way it 'hooks' out at the bottom then scratches anything you lean it up against (camper van cabinets, etc.). I also wish the top had a better way to close up or seal. Elastic or a slim drawcord might be nice. Windblown sand and dust get into the main compartment too easily. Overall, when the packs are fully loaded, it becomes really hard to get anything in or out. There needs to be more space in the laptop sleeve, and accommodation for the top pocket in there. The whole pack tends to sag down, and then cameras or lenses in the bottom take too much effort to get out of back in. While I like the matte, all-black look of the packs, I've never loved PD's exterior fabric. It scuffs and holds onto marks and dirt really easily. It's also heavy. I also prefer the nice, doubled over spandex side pockets on some Evergoods packs to the thick, harder to get into versions on these. Despite being relatively thin and narrow, the should straps are still quite comfortable. I do wish they had an anti-microbial treatment to keep the smells away, or were removable to wash or replace. Mine have gotten pretty funky over the years/hikes, and can't get it out. I also wouldn't mind another top outside pocket, perhaps on the lid. And lastly, in general I feel like PD's stitch quality could be better. Other than that, I've gotten lot of use out of these, but hope they can finally combine features and make the 3rd generation the charm.

Great bag and excellent service

I have the 20L bag, and it is perfect for a Z8, a few lenses, and a speedlight. Being very water-resistant is a plus, and it can take a lot of extra soft-goods in the top with no problem.
