    Great but order size down

    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 140lbs

Great pant, keeps you dry and insulated. But the pants are very large so I would recommend ordering a size down. Even with the draw string it was hard to keep the pants up with a pack bc they were so large. I ordered a medium but should have gone with a small.

    Solid Rain Pant

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 145lbs

The Torrentshell is a great rain pant overall. I knocked it a star as they are rather heavy, between the long side zippers and pockets and such. The fit is as expected: a medium allowed room to layer without feeling too oversized.

    For wind and cold

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

came in super handy on a very windy morning on the summit of Mount Lafayette. Easy to put on and take off without having to remove hiking boots, and kept out the cold!

    Not that impressed

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: s
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 111lbs

Fits a little big at the waste - puffy. Not breathable - not what I was expecting. I would not recomment these for cold weather activities.

    Bought a second pair

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 109lbs

The wife liked these well enough that when she lost her first pair, we got replacement.

    alaska

    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'0"
    • Weight: 160lbs

i got these for my trip to alaska this summer. i havent used them in the rain yet but i did try them on for an afternoon. They seem to fit well but are a tad long. im also very short so all my pants are always long...

    Solid Shell but size down

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I've been using these pants for winter fat biking and they've been perfect for my needs. I love the full-length side vents. Even when I'm cranking up a climb I know I won't be dripping with sweat at the top and consequently freezing on the descent when I'm soaking wet! The fit was initially a little off--I ended up with a size small because the medium was WAY too long and quite a bit baggier than I wanted for biking. I'm a pretty solid medium in almost every pant due to my biker's butt and thighs, so I was very surprised that I needed to size down in these pants. But now that I have the correct size I couldn't be happier with the fit. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a waterproof shell pant that won't break the bank.

    Great rain pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I must have tried 5 pairs & these were the best fit for me. Some were way too heavy with tight waist & super super long legs. I’m a small person (5’1, size 4, short legs, 30” inseam). Comfortable, light, & seems like they will be awesome rain pants. I like the adjustable cinched ankles.

    Great

I got these for my mom for her bike trip in Ireland. She said they are very high quality, and the combo zipper/snap on the ankle was useful to keep the rain out on wetter days. She was pleased with their performance on her trip and said she stayed dry. She also liked that they were long enough.

    great shell pant

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'4"

These pants are great. Lightweight, waterproof, and the fit is comfortable and secure. The zipper pockets are nice and I like the ankle zipper and snap features as well. Typical Patagonia product which allows you to stuff it into the pocket and zip it closed - very convenient and practical. Overall pleased with this purchase!

    Warm and Dry

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I used this mostly for canyoneering when there are waterfalls involved but no wading in pools. Great purchase. I am a 27" waist, with 36" hips, size 4 usually and bought this in Small. I was warm in it and once was sweating a little in it even though it was chilly out and my feet were freezing from the water.

    Provides protection from the elements!

    • Size Bought: Large

I've only used these once but they seem to do their job and keep the rain off. I agree with the other reviews that say they are ultimately not as breathable or as durable as some more expensive rain pants out there. However, I did not really need anything more hardcore then this so they work for me!!

    Great rain pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I recently acquired a pair of these shell pants, and have worn them skiing and on snowshoes trips with moderate precipitation and high winds. Even when my rain jacket soaked through, my lower half was completely dry-the pants had no trace of moisture on them (any water or ice brushes right off). I haven't yet worn them in a real rainstorm, so I can't say how they'd perform in that environment, but everything I've put them through on the mountain they've held up to wonderfully.
Due to the nature of the fabric, it does make that swishing noise when you walk, but it's never bothered me when I'm on the mountain. Really the only (small) issue I have with the construction of the pants is that the draw cord around the waist has to be tied if you want to tighten it, and the cord material is slick enough that a double-knot is required.
I am 5'4 and 115 lb and the small fits comfortably over hiking pants.

    Great emergency pants

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 160lbs

These pants are a great option when you need something fully waterproof and lightweight. I would say that if you're an ounce counter with your gear, they might be a bit heavy for backpacking, but for car camping and light hiking they are great.

They fit true to size, but I did size up one size from my normal size to be able to accommodate a warm layer underneath. I'm a size 10 jean and I went with the large. They fit a bit big, but I'd rather have the extra room to layer rather than feel like a stuffed sausage.

    Rain Pants Are Super

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I love these pants! I used to use the cheaper, low quality rain pants because I thought they didn't really matter because it can't rain all the time...BUT, I found they are just as essential as a quality rain jacket to my comfort! These pants fit nicely over my hiking pants without being too tight. And they are pretty breathable so I don't feel like I'm sweating to death in them! Even better, I recently wore them on a science expedition to Churchill, Manitoba with the Earthwatch Institute and found that mosquitoes can't bite through them!!!!!!

    Disappointed

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 200lbs

I used these working as a guide in Alaska for a season. They were not particularly breathable, which joined with the fact that they don't fit over my boots meant stopping every time the weather changed unlacing removing boots and starting back up. In Alaska where the weather changes frequently this was a nuisance. Also, they didn't fit very well. The cuff on the ankle was small and the waist large, Which meant I was constantly pulling them up despite trying to cinch the waist down(I am 6'2, 200).
