I love how this coat feels like wearing a blanket and the blue color is even better in person than the picture.

Great quality as far as materials, fit is impeccable - slimming but not restrictive, no big logos for a classier look (“Patagonia” is discreetly on the sleeve, not on the chest as some stock photos show). I am shorter and the jacket fell below my knees, which I liked. I have tried to talk myself into keeping, but it is just NOT warm. Maybe I got a defective one? I fluffed it, wore it for a short walk down the driveway in 8 degree weather and I was frozen. I have other down jackets that are by far warmer. Backcountry great customer service though and helped me exchange for another down jacket. Impressed by the gearheads for sure!

Great Coat, Lousy Zipper
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I buy Patagonia clothes frequently; this, sadly, was my first return. The coat is good -- warm and roomy with a nice silhouette for a down coat. However, the zipper is flimsy, cheap and doesn't zip 90% of the time -- when pulling up or down. Utterly maddening. Certainly not up to the usual Patagonia quality, that's for sure. I kept it for a few weeks, thinking it would get "broken in"... nope. I'm returning.

Not What I Hoped

My favorite all-time jacket was a Patagonia down parka, so perhaps my hopes were a bit high, but even so... basically this jacket is not the best deal. The cons: the collar is stiff and awkward, with no soft lining like the Down With It Parka, and as a result, it jabs uncomfortably into your neck when you walk, even when unzipped. Given the good quality of the fabric, you'd think they'd put a heavy duty zipper on this coat, but the zipper feels too slim and flimsy for the jacket, like it's not going to last. And the rubberization on top of the zipper also makes it stiff, affecting the way the fabric hangs. Basically it gives you a rounded bosom and a rounded belly, which is not super flattering. As another reviewer pointed out, the pockets are particularly shallow. I've worried that my keys will fall out of the pocket when I want to walk with my hands in my pockets, so I keep them zippered. But I love walking with my hands in my pockets! I was also a bit disappointed with the level of warmth. It's warm enough, but nothing special. My $60 Uniqlo jacket from a few years back is the same level of warmth, and it's much lighter and thinner than the Patagonia. The pros: the deep slate blue color is unique and the fabric is high quality and seems to be more waterproof than the Down With It parka. Some people don't like the smallness of the hood, but I didn't mind that, it's not fashionable looking but it fits snuggly on my head keeping the wind out. Overall, I thought maybe I was sacrificing form for function, but this jacket doesn't really deliver on either front. Sorry Patagonia, I still loved that old jacket! Backcountry has been great with customer service, and are facilitating an exchange.
