Because nobody likes dirt and debris in their shoes.

The Outdoor Research Flex-Tex II Gaiters stop dirt, mud, and snow from entering trail running shoes, hiking boots, and cross-country ski boots. The single drawcord closure wraps around to the back of this low-profile gaiter, tightening into an "X" shape to fit a wide variety of shoes and boots. A high-visibility BioThane instep strap secures this gaiter to your shoes' or boots' soles, and the hook-and-loop front closure ensures a tight seal against debris.

    Keeps the crap out!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Debris in your shoes and boots is the worst. The Flex-Tex 2 gaiters work hard to prevent that from happening. Solid OR construction through out. I particularly like the straps on all OR gaiters. They are super durable. My OR Crocodiles lasted me almost 20 years I expect these to take the same beating.

Great Fit Great Product again by OR

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Use them for snowshoeing in the north cascades, have used them in 2 ft of snow for just regular hiking that I have ran into, they just work after 5 hours of hiking around still dry all the way up to the coverage area. You should not be disappointed and I do recommended to those looking for boot coverage.

    Unanswered Question

How would these do in warm weather? I'm soon going to be doing an event that will entail hiking completely off trail for 30+ miles in the mountains. Expecting temps ranging from lows of around 50 to highs of possibly 90. I'm not worried about the lows, but don't want to be any more miserable than I have to be in the heat of the day. Thanks!

    Hey again Rod,

Just answered your same question on the Rab Latok Alpine Gaiter. Pretty much all of our gaiters that we keep in stock are designed more with climbing and mountaineering in mind and intended to keep your legs safe from accidental brushes with stick, sharp rocks, and climbing crampons. A snakes hypodermic needle like fangs would likely still be able to break through on these but are better than nothing. I strongly suggest getting a pair of gaiters that are more designed for the task if you are going to be tempting fate and walking around in a snake pit.
