    Runs large

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 30

Purchased these in a 32, a size that I have worn for the last 20 years. They were far too large. Working with a Backcountry customer service rep., he quickly set me up with a size 30 and I am pleased to say they fit great. My experience was that they run large.

    Ultra lite

These shorts are ultralight material, very comfortable, long down to the knee or a little below, true to waist size. They are IDEAL for hot weather. Like tropical hot and humid. I'm not sure how the material will hold up to abuse, we shall see. They have a nice loose fit.

      Awesome Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these shorts before heading to Colorado for a 14er bagging trip. I think I wore these shorts three days in a row. Super comfortable around town and felt great on the mountain. I'll be buying another pair.

      Awesome Shorts

      Great shorts for big guys

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 36

Really like the shorts. They are lightweight and perfect for walks or serious hikes. The size 36 were true to size. Love the 12" length. I'm 6'2" and they ride just at the bottom of the knee.

      Own several, Love these!

These shorts are extremely comfortable. I mean wow. Almost feels like you have nothing on. Very lightweight, quick dry, lots of pockets and storage areas. Once I tried a pair, it make many of my other shorts instantly not feel as comfortable, so they can ruin you. I have 3 different colors, 4 pairs total and have not had a problem with any of them. They also pack very nicely and take up very little room. You don't have to worry about wrinkles either as the material is pretty much impervious to anything you throw at it. Even my kids haven't managed to stain them yet!

      colors misleading - otherwise perfect

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These are hands down my favorite shorts - great for cycling /commuting (i'm not big on the whole "tights" and spandex look)

My only problem is the colors appear way off. I bought a second pair to have 2 colors - and the ones I have clearly look just like "mushroom" - so, I ordered "coyote", which look more like khaki rather than olive (mushroom)...

However, the Coyote is what I already have, so now I have to exchange. Will order mushroom now and see what the difference is. I honestly think they are mislabeled on the site - will find out.

Otherwise, best shorts ever. I live on the beach and wear lots of "hybrid" style surf trunks for their similar stretchy and quick-drying properties - and these are better than all of those I've had ... great shorts. get some!

Great shorts - except the pockets

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These are great shorts for day hiking and trekking.

Performance: The fabric is one of the best out there for breathability and comfort. They breathe well on hot days and have good wind resistance. Very comfortable. I've had no durability issues with either pair I own.

Fit: I wear a 34 waist in most pants and the 34 waist in these shorts is a perfect fit. They have a performance, athletic cut, great for active outdoor pursuits. Length is just about perfect - they end about 2 inches above my knees (I have a 34 inch inseam).

Features: Backcountry's description is not quite accurate. The shorts have 2 hand pockets, 2 rear pockets, and 1 size zip pocket. The pockets are my only gripe about these shorts. The side zip pocket is rather small and barely fits my iPhone. In addition, there is no closure on the back pockets and they gape open - not the most secure situation. Come on, OR, make the side pocket a tad bigger and put a zipper on one or both of the back pockets as you do on the Ferrosi pants.

Application: great for hiking or any outdoor activity where you need a short with great stretch and breathability. Just don't put anything you don't want to lose in the back pockets!

Love these shorts?will get more. Lightweight, longer length, dry fast (washed in rivers and hotel sinks and they are dry in the morning). As a result of lightweight material, they are probably not going to be the most durable?its not cordura nylon but more the brushed/soft material so I suspect will more easily snag, tear or wear through more readily. There is one zipper pocket on the thigh?your standard front pockets and then a pair of ?patch? pockets on the rear. If I had my druthers, I wish the back pockets had a zipper or button to secure your wallet or phone a little better?I?ve never lost either of them but could foresee items coming out reasonably easily (being very active or a great invite for a pick pocket).

Best shorts Ive owned, no joke.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size

They are airy and cool. Stretchy yet tough. I have rock climbed in them countless times (including dws). I even sometimes use them as my mountain bike shorts with padded shorts beneath them. Swim in them and they are dry long before my webbing belt dries out. Wish they came in blue.

Incredibly comfortable but a little long

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size

These shorts are a paradox. They are very thin and super comfortable but at the same time really durable. I've been amazed at what they've been through and have held up and look like new. The spandex in them makes them have just the right amount of stretch. The only con for me with these shorts is that they are a little long so i had to have them hemmed. With the 12" inseem they were about 2" below my knee. Once hemmed they are incredible. I wear a size 36 in just about every pair of pants and shorts and I got a 36 in these and they fit perfectly. My pant inseam is normally 30-31" and these were long on me, thus the hemming. Giving it 5 stars despite the length because of how awesome they really are.

        Great shorts!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Ferrosi collection is nice, it's all very lightweight, durable, and looks nice, and these shorts are no exception.

The length is a bit long, but not terrible, the waist fit is true to size, and it has nicely sized pockets as well as a nice zippered pocket on the right leg that is easily accessible and perfect for a phone to take gorgeous pictures to savor the moment while you're climbing.

My only qualm is that after washing it once, the OR stitching on the left leg began to pull out... Nothing too bad, just a little disappointed that for $65 OR couldn't do a better stitch...

Overall I recommend them for any climber!

        Years of great wear

I've had these shorts for three years now. In fact, I've decided to get a second pair they're so good. The fit is casual and stylish while the fabric is great for tonnes of outdoor activities. I can wear these on a huge hike or climb or even a mountain bike ride and not feel embarassed about wearing them to the pub afterward. They also wick sweat well, dry quickly and are pretty water resistant on days when the weather turns to rain. Good choice.

          Great shorts!!

I really like these shorts. I bought two pair. They are well made like most other OR products. The material is thin, but tough. They are cut well. Not too big, but not to skinny like many other shorts these days. I was afraid they were going to be a little short, but they hit just below my knee cap, which I like. I am 6'1 with a 33 inch inseam and wear my shorts on my hips. I don't sag them, but I don't pull them way up on my waist either. I really like the cut of the front pockets. The only minor issue I have with the shorts is that there is no closure on the back pockets. These shorts make awesome travel shorts, but without having a button or velcro closure you have to be careful about putting your wallet in the back pockets.

            Most Veratile Shorts

Echo all the other comments. Lack of huge bulky cargo pocket is excellent, and the design of the side cargo pocket allows for access when seated without the contents spilling out.

Only negative is that the waist size seems off. I ordered a size 36, and I must use a belt to keep them on, but there is considerable material "gathered" under the tightened belt. They'd be better if they laid flat under the belt.

Given other options, I only wear others when these are in the wash, which isn't often because a quick rinse in a stream, sink, washrack, whatever, and they dry quickly on a line.

              Very versatile

These shorts do it all. I love the stretch and the wicking abilities so you are not soaking wet with sweat from the approach. Nothing makes the alpine wind more chilly than being wet. They climb well also with the stretch and I would not hesitate to hit the bar after wards in these either.

                  The BEST DAMN SHORTS, ever.

Need I say more? These rigs are like stretch-woven board shorts: long enough through the inseam to wear with a harness--and to not feel self-conscious when being lowered--while light and quick-to-dry, making them ideal for an afternoon dip in the Split Rock swimming hole, after cragging all-day at the Trapps!
