    Ice, ice, alpine.

Don't be a baby; the ice is simply too fine for the climb on particularly frigid winter days, so instead of staying in home all day, slip into the Outdoor Research Men's Apenice Pant and ignore the screaming barfies until you reach the anchors. This pant provides heavyweight insulation ideal for freezing temperatures, and the Polartec Alpha insulation is ridiculously air permeable for extreme breathability on any highly active adventure in the alpine's wintry wonderland. The pant's AscentShell fabric is also highly breathable, and it keeps wind and water out for proper winter protection. This piece is certainly ideal for minimalists with its limited features to keep weight and packing space at a minimum.

    Very tight waist belt

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 150lbs

The integrated waist belt doesn't completely detach, as there's a looped section always connected (I could push it out, like a pack's folded over strap stopper, but I doubt OR meant this to happen every single time someone would want to put on the pants). At full extension of the belt, I can barely squeeze my butt/hips through the belt to put on the pants, which echoes some of the reviews I've now seen (belatedly) on OR's own website for the alpenice pants.

Bought size S (for other OR pants which are OK), but for this pair of pants I might have been better off with size M (although inseam might be too long then)

FYI I'm a true 30" waist size, 5'7", 150lbs, athletic frame (rock/ice climb, marathons, power lift etc).

How many pockets do these have (hand pockets, thigh pockets, etc)?
Also, how do the side vents work (i.e. is the zipper only along the thigh or does it go all the way to the ankle for full zip. If it is thigh zip only, is there an ankle zip for easy on/off?
