Aro5 Helmet

Occupying the middle ground in Oakley's line-up between the airy-ventilated Aro3 and time trial favorite Aro7, the Aro5 Helmet provides a streamlined profile at real-world yaw angles and MIPS technology for the discerning cyclist. Ultimately, the Aro5 satisfies those cyclists seeking an aerodynamic advantage, but without sacrificing much in the way of ventilation or compromising on comfort across long distances.

When first designing the Aro5 Helmet, Oakley formed a baseline around MIPS technology, seeing it's now ubiquitous with all premium cycling helmets on the market. This allowed Oakley to create a purpose built helmet around this impact-dispersing technology, instead of dropping in a MIPS liner and calling it good. Soft brow and crown pads help to distribute pressure when you're cranking it down tightly, so you don't have to worry about pressure points.

Another innovative feature with the Aro5 is the ability to integrate with your favorite eyewear. Oakley achieves this with a Boa FS-1 fit system that controls a low-profile nylon webbing that tightens evenly in 360 degrees, but without bunching or catching on sunglasses arms like other fit systems. There's even an eyewear dock built into the front vents, so you can securely stow your shades while pulling off the road or walking into the local cafe.

Delving into its aerodynamic prowess, you'll find wide channels along the front reduce drag in multiple cycling positions and effectively move airflow across your head to prevent overheating. There's a race car-inspired scoop at the top of the back, which grabs moving air, then channels it into multiple rear exhaust vents. Additionally, it's very narrow and short in stature to maximize the helmet's aerodynamic efficiency at yaw angles between zero and 10 degrees, which is where most cyclists spend their time.

The strap loosens, safety issue.

I've put it through the wringer

I think they need to recall this helmet for safety issue or have a fix remedy for it ,every time I adjust my strap it does not take long that it will get loose all the way. The air doesn't vent enough. The only thing I like about this helmet is Boa FS1 system.

Great Helmet & No Complaints

Familiarity:

This is my first official helmet and unfortunately I don?t have anything else in the past to compare this to so with that in mind you can tell that I am new to cycling. Starting with the look, after watching a ton of videos on YouTube, I was really concerned about the ?mushroom? look but after physically trying this helmet I was really impressed. In fact, I get compliments on the look and the style. Please note I went with the polished black. Next the fit, initially I purchased a small since my head circumference was at 56 cm and a small is recommended based on Oakley?s website, however, after receiving the helmet in the mail it was way too small. It looked like a small child?s helmet, so I ended up returning it for a medium which fits perfectly. The helmet is very comfortable and the boa system is very easy to use. Lastly, I want to add my head temperature inside the helmet. Many reviewers have complaint about how hot their head feels after wearing this helmet but I haven?t experienced this myself but to be fair it?s currently winter season. I live in Georgia where it can get brutally hot, but currently we are in the winter months, however, we have had a few days in high low 70s and my head has felt cool and not sweaty. I am hopeful with the aero technology and the large vents, my experience will stay the same as I don?t plan on cycling when it?s typically anything over 84 degrees but we will see in the coming spring/summer months. On a last note, just wanted to share that my experience with Backcountry as a new customer has been awesome. Whenever I have called and spoken to their live customer service members, they are always very respectful and helpful. Thank you!
