Mountain Hardwear designed the Men's Canyon Pro Long-Sleeve Shirt with the goal of creating the ultimate backpacking shirt. Its stretchy fabric keeps up with you on technical treks and WickQ technology pulls sweat away from your skin and dries quickly to keep you cool and dry while you hike. Underarm ventilation keeps air flowing to prevent you from getting swamped with sweat. The fabric is also lightweight for comfort in hot conditions, yet still tough enough to withstand abuse sustained on the trail. Plus, UPF 50 sun protection shields your skin from UV rays when you're in exposed alpine environments. So whether you're hiking five miles or fifty, you can't go wrong with the Canyon Pro.

Previous Canyon Pro LS shirt w/ snap front
Came looking for my favorite shirt of all time, the canyon pro with the snap front, non metallic snaps, light, cool, great all year for layering, plain but sharp, didn't look high tech but was, soft, stretched just right, and they stopped making it. My favorite shorts of all time, and pants were also canyon pro. Would have bought extra to keep in storage for when my pairs die if I'd realized. This looks like a Columbia shirt with buttons on it.

Excellent hiking shirt
This is a improvement over the Canyon shirt. The fabric is cooler in hot environments and feels more like a cotton fabric. Best improvement is the ability to roll up the sleeves without having to button them in to keep them there. The zip pocket is a good idea but isn't large enough to hold my Iphone. I only wish they had more color options. I've purchased a second shirt after using the first one.

Original Canyon Shirt Performs Better
I am a big fan of Mountain Hardwear and use many MH products on every backcountry trip (Ghost 2 tent, Phantom 32 sleeping bag, tops, bottoms, etc.) and hope this review is taken as constructive criticism. I am disappointed by this new "pro" version Canyon Shirt. I have an earlier non-pro (amateur?) Canyon Shirt that has served me well for years, for backpacking, hiking, even archaeological fieldwork. I just took both shirts on a 5 day backpacking trip to the Trinity Alps, CA. The fit of the "pro" is comfortable even though it is much more closely tailored than my older Canyon Shirt, and the material has a pleasant softness to it. However, I don't think it wicks very well. On a long uphill I found the shirt completely soaked in sweat, almost as though I were wearing cotton. It didn't dry out until I stood in a breeze for quite a while. For comparison, I wore my older version Canyon Shirt on alternate days under similar circumstances and had no such trouble. The new "pro" version has only small vents at the top of the back, nothing else that indicates it was designed for serious backcountry use in hot conditions. It looks great and should perform acceptably in the city, such as sipping an IPA at a brewpub, but I won't be reaching for it again when I'm selecting gear for a backpacking trip. Sorry to be negative but that's the result of my multi-day side-by-side comparison.

For Slight Builds Only
This shirt is definitely not true to size - wwwaaayyy small in chest/shoulders - like a UK manufactured suit. I fit perfectly into an American XL (46-48) which this shirt was supposed to be. Tried it on - loved the fabric but the buttons across the chest looked ready to explode. Returned and bought a Columbia Silver Ridge Lite in XL that fit perfectly.
