    Ramble Component Jacket

Dialing in your winter gear can be a serious pain, with all the baselayers, midlayers, and shells you have to choose from, but Marmot's Ramble Component Men's Jacket makes all your layering worries things of the past. It's a classic 3-in-1, with a tough outer shell that's been outfitted with a waterproof and breathable two-layer MemBrain laminate and fully taped seams to shed soggy snow, wintry rain, and gunky precipitation of all other sorts. The warm fleece liner jacket can be worn along with the shell or on its own for dependable warmth.

The shell features a fixed adjustable hood for increased storm protection. The shell and liner jacket are cut with Marmot's famous Angel-Wing Movement, which lets you lift your arms to praise the snow gods without exposing your waist to their tomfoolery. A drawcord hem and hook-and-loop cuffs on the shell provide extra snow and windproofing, and a series of external and internal pockets keep your snacks close, your phone dry, and your ski pass within easy reach.

    • A 3-in-1 jacket suitable for skiing, snowboarding, and showshoeing
    • Outer shell made with Marmot's waterproof and breathable MemBrain
    • Removable liner jacket made from 100-weight Polartec fleece
    • Hood, hem, and cuffs can be adjusted to suit weather conditions
    • DriClime chin guard is soft and comfortable against skin
    • Regular fit with relaxed shoulders and straight hem
    • Item #MAR00V1

    Tested in the Himalyas

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    Fit:True to size
    Size BoughtSmall
    Height5` 8"
    Weight150 lbs

Put it through its paces on multiple multi day treks in the Himalyas. Fits great and kept me warm in windy and freezing conditions, even at 4AM on sumit days. Zippers are great and the modularity makes it the most versatile jacket I have. Bought it at half off and that's some serious value.

Love the Coat / Great Customer Service

    Familiarity:I've used it several times
    Fit:Runs large
    Size BoughtSmall

This is a two part review. Jacket: I got this jacket to go skiing in and haven't been disappointed. It has kept me warm in a range of temperatures and windy conditions in the mountains of Colorado. My only complaint is that the coat didn't breath as well as other coats I've used, but I didn't have any condensation issues in the pockets like the other reviewer had. I am willing to live with that since the coat is pretty thin and non-bulky. I can fit this coat in my carry on luggage to take on trips and it doesn't take up anymore space than a sweatshirt. I'm not sure if Marmot has manipulated the sizes based on previous reviews, but every review (here and other sites as well) said that the sizes ran a little small. I'm a small guy, but I found the opposite to be true. I normally am between a medium and large for coats and found a medium to be slightly too big. I ended up with a small and it fit perfectly (I'm 5'10" / 150 lbs). I also would have liked to see Marmot make the hood detachable since I rarely use the hood. Since Marmot made the hood very light and almost unnoticeable when wearing the coat, I can deal with it. Backcountry.com Customer Service: Backcountry did not disappoint. I'm a big fan of having the ability to chat with customer service since it's fast and it prevents them from having to listen to my kids screaming about stupid stuff while I'm on the phone. There was a sale on the Alpine Green jacket ($155) and I got medium. I loved the color but medium was a little too big. I felt like I was a kid wearing my dad's jacket. I had spoken with customer service prior to making the purchase and they had agreed to waive the return shipping cost if it didn't fit. Unfortunately they didn't have Alpine Green in size small, so they agreed to let me get Cavern / Golden Palm in small at the same price even though it was listed at a much higher price. I normally hate buying clothes online because of the sizing issues, but Backcountry made it as easy as possible with no risk. I highly recommend using them and I highly recommend this coat as long as you can deal with the slight breathability issues.

    Doesn't Breathe, Awful... look elsewhere

    Familiarity:I've used it several times
    Fit:Runs small
    Size BoughtMedium
    Height5` 11"
    Weight172 lbs

Awful for skiing as it doesn't breathe. Even my ski pass and iPhone in the pocket came out with condensation all over them. I used this on two days of our trip and ended up changing over to a windbreaker with a long sleeve thermal underneath - taking the inner fleece out of the Marmot jacket was not an option due to the lack of air flow. Runs a half size small. I usually purchase L for all my t-shirts and M for all jackets so they are not too baggy. This was slightly too tight as a M, but I felt a L would have been too large. Don't think about buying this.

Does the fleece have an inside pocket that is accessible when you are using the fleece with the shell (as the warmest of the 3-in-1 combo)? The last version of this jacket did not and that was my bf's biggest & only complaint about the jacket.
