Same as OR Ascendant

I had an OR Ascendant jacket which is the same as this. It quickly became my go-to layer for winter climbs. It got stolen from my office place by the cleaners and I have been missing such a layer since then. The OR Ascendant has since been discontinued as its unavailable in normal sizes anywhere online. Then I found this Marmot Alpha 60. Like the Ascendant but better as it has zippered pockets with mesh lining so any snow that gets in there falls down the outside of your pants and doesnt get the inside of the jacket wet -- great improvement! Thanks Marmot -- and yeah as others have said --- this has become a MUST layer for people who generate energy on the up hill and want some better heat managements in all sorts of conditions.

An awesome, versatile piece

I love this jacket. It is one of the best purchases I?ve made. As others have said, its temperature regulation is incredible; I run hot while hiking and sweat profusely, but not with this jacket. The Alpha 60 is my go-to for hiking and alpine activity, as it?s able to keep me cool in lower elevations and warm in higher elevations. No more constant swapping of layers as I ascend. The DWR does a good job at rolling off water in light- moderate rain. As with all DWR, the coating does wear out with time and use, and it only offers some wind resistance, but the Alpha is a perfect layering piece with a shell. The hood cinches close to your head for maximum heat retention, as do the wrist cuffs. This has gone on dozens of hikes with me, in a variety of conditions. I used this on Mt. Adams last year and it worked beautifully. I?ve also used it in ~20 degree Fahrenheit blizzard conditions with a base layer and shell, and it kept me warm while moving. It is an activewear piece- you will want to have a thicker puffy for base camp, if using the Alpha in colder climates. It?s incredibly lightweight and stuffs down small, and always has a place in my pack. An amazing piece for any price and truly a steal on sale. I highly recommend!
