When footwork is few and far in between, and the crimps are microscopic, we turn to La Sportiva's Miura VS Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe. It's one of our favorites for technical climbs because its sharp toe gives a firm grip on the tiniest of features. A moderately downturned profile fine-tunes the shoe for vertical-to-overhung climbs. This version of the Miura has Vibram's XS Edge rubber for a boost in edging performance.

I broke this shoe out of the package and, while the shoe has been good, I am disappointed in it. Within one session on rock, the rubber on the toe box punctured through the sole and now I am left to question the durability of the shoe. The rubber has not held up well during my last session and I fear that they will not last long. As the shoe is meant for edging and the stiffness is the reason I bought them, I cannot recommend them.

In case you didn't see it, there's a review of "The Best Climbing Shoes of 2021" floating around on the Internet; and that review rates the Miura VS #1. Yup, this "oldie but goodie" still rates among the best edging shoes, and is capable of bouldering, etc. I had a pair of these and wandered away to the "latest & greatest". Usually wear Solutions but just invested in a pair of these to use on a vexatious route with tiny features I'm trying and trying to send. We'll see..... Size down .5 to take advantage of its performance and also compensate for stretch. They work best when super-tight.

Bites the edge
I've been climbing this shoe for a few years now. It's been great! I have a pair of mythos in the same size and they can't hold an edge like these babies. If you're looking for something that hook a dime and still give you that confidence that your feet will hold, the miura is it. It's a nice in between from comfort to super aggressive.

Top notch durability and performance
I recently bought my third pair of Miura Vs (all with resoles) and again I was not disappointed. I needed a new pair of edging shoes for a long term vertical nightmare project and these were perfect! When these were released 20 or so years ago, I was convinced these were the best all around shoe on the market, and no shoe since has changed my mind. Many shoes have come out that are better specialist for certain things (toehooking, comps, super steep, etc), but for all around sport climbing performance and comfort, these are still the best out there. They also hold up for at least 1-2 resoles as long as you don't destroy the rand or shoe too far.

Edging machine!
Ive had a few pairs of the Muira VS and have worn the Muira Lace for many years. The Muira VS is a bit stiffer than the lace so its an excellent shoe for tiny edges on vertical to slightly overhanging routes and boulder problems. I like that the shoe keeps its stiffness and shape throughout its life and the velcro make it really easy to take on and off. The shape of the shoe makes it easy to see where you want to place your foot and is built to drive power to the big toe making it one of my favorite Sportiva shoes for a variety of rock types.

I bought my first pair of Miura?s before a month long climbing trip where we hit Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. These shoes are great for what they?re made for. My feet were able to hook onto cracks and edges so small, I wouldn?t have thought of them as footholds before these shoes. They are stiff, which makes them unbeatable for edging, slab, technical footwork. Once they?re broken in, then do pretty well for overhanging sport/boulder routes, just a bit stiff. They really shine in edging though, so if static slabs, face climbing, or even multi-pitch is your style, or you just want a good moderate level shoe that does everything pretty well, these are the ticket in my book. I?ve bought two pair since my first. I love them.

Edging Machine
There's still no other shoe than can stand on tiny things like these. Break in takes a bit longer, and is more painful (for me) than other shoes, but totally worth it. I keep 3 pairs so I can always have a pair with fresh edges.

amazing all the way around
This is the only shoe that I will wear if I'm working on routes that I care about. They are wonderful when trying to heel hook or toe hook, and edging in them is easy as well. It is comfortable and high quality. I only had one issue with one pair, which was the rubber on the toe peeled after 6 months, but other than that I haven't had any issues. These shoes are super versatile and I hope I am able to get them far into the future!!
