Why We Like The Tecton X Trail Running Shoe

The Tecton X streamlines speed, giving us fuss-free performance on dusty summer trails. Inspired by the power of the earth's lithosphere, HOKA gave the plush platform two carbon-fiber plates to float us into smooth transitions and explosive toe offs. As we glide along desert singletrack, the strategically placed lugs secure every strike, while the supple upper lets our feet breathe.

They feel heavy

I bought these from the recommendation of two of the fastest trail runners I know. They claim the Tecton X are their favorite shoe. My very first trial run with these they felt so heavy under my feet. Similar to the feeling of having mud stuck to the underside of your shoe. Since then I've enjoyed them more for road/treadmill running but they're really not my favorite for the trails. Again, remember these are great for people who have average/narrow feet.

Like walking on clouds.

These shows are amazing for your feet with the perfect toe box but not so much on your ankles when trail running. Little to no ankle support on trails so better suited for non elevated runs or when you are outdoors on your feet all day. The back of the shoe dug into my ankle and created a bloody mess while hiking/running on elevated trails. I did not have the same issue when running on the beach.

Still loving these awesome shoes!

Wanted to do a follow up to my last positive review. I have both colors of these shoes. Techron X has become my go to shoe for everything. Hiking miles has now become easy. No more do I feel powerless on steep terrain. PLEASE ADD A GTX VERSION OR BETTER YET ONE FOR ABOVE THE ANKLE ! Want to have these shoes on through the winter. Bravo to the design team.

Not sure I'd spend the money again

I went way out on a limb to spend $200 plus on a pair of shoes. I am a below knee amputee and my "meat foot" takes a beating to make up for the missing foot. I'm extremely physically active and wanted a shoe that could make my meat foot more comfortable...particularly across the ball of my foot. While the added stability (I'm a supination) and rear foot padding is excellent, I still find that the offing across the ball of my foot is insufficient and I'm continuing to have problems with the lack of added padding, resulting in a sore foot after even walking distances on hard surfaces as well as running.

PR Baby!

I literally feel like I am flying in these awesome shoes! I have absolutely PR'd in them (thank you carbon fiber plate and Hoka shoe designers). Lighter and more sensitive for shorter distances up to 50K-50M. I usually wear Speedgoat 5's. Speedgoats have more cushion for longer distances and very technical trails. But for smooth buttery trails at the 50K-50M (or less) distance, get ready to FLY in the Tecton X!

Amazing Shoes, will going to buy again in diff colors

I love this shoe! I've hiked 20 different states in these shoes. Extremely lightweight, packs well, and easy to clean. I am wanting another pair so I have the other color option.

Mountain slayer

I used these to hike in the Rocky Mountains. The extra stiffness and durability were a must. The traction was great. Now I were them for workouts.

Excellent trail runner

Pros: no break-in, great support on a variety of terrains, good grip Cons: Carbon-fiber plates less forgiving on crushed stone than others
