Why We Like The Speedgoat 5 Trail Running Shoe
The Speedgoat 5 is at home bounding atop root- and rock-riddled singletrack. Now a half ounce lighter, this racer has picked up the pace while still padding our strikes and energizing our toe offs. The sandwich mesh upper keeps our feet breathing easy, while the aggressive lugs solidify our footing as we charge up steeps, around switchbacks, and back down to the valley floor.

Splitting uppers
Am a devoted Hoka runner, have had many pairs of Speedgoats, but this latest model is a big disappointment. I have two pairs of the Speedgoat 5's and both have splits where the upper meets the sole on the lateral edge of both feet. This happened around mile 175/200 for each pair. Not only does this shorten the life of the shoe (at some point my feet just start slipping out of the shoe at the split) but it eliminates the afterlife of the shoe as well. I just have to throw them away. I used to count on old pairs of my Speedgoats as beaters for gnarly watery trails and for just walking around with my dog. Old trail shoes make great walking shoes. In the past, a spent pair of Speedgoats has given me months and months of use beyond their regular life. Please go back to the reinforced upper. It's a trail shoe after all: that mesh fabric can't hold up.

Most comfortable shoes ever.
I have been wearing shoes of some sort for over 50 years. These are by far the most comfortable. I love both the cushioning and the stability of the Speed Goat 5. The sizing was a perfect fit out of the box. I plan on buying another pair of Hoka later this year.

Don't fit my feet well
These look better than most Hoka's, but I needed to return them as they didn't fit my feet right. My foot felt like it sat "too high" in them so that my heel felt like it was slipping out of the back when I walked. Also, the tongue is one of those really thin types as opposed to the more cushy tongues. It cut across the top of my foot and wasn't comfortable. I think the shoe is probably fine, but for some reason it didn't fit my foot well at all. As a comparison, I wear the Hoka Transport daily, and they are one of the best shoes I have ever worn.

Lived my 4s but not fond of these 5s
Overall just not as comfortable as my SG 4s. Hate how short the tongue is. Everyone I slip my foot in the tongue disappears. As there are so few models in wide I'm finding it hard to find an option. I'm using these for trail hiking

White Out!
Speedgoat 5 in solid white is sure to be a winner. I wish they made it in a mid-rise too. Next to the Clifton 9, the Speedgoat is my favorite iteration of the Hoka ethos

Bad upper fit, they choke the foot to the point of numbness.
These are my first experience with the SG5 and it has not been a great one. I use these on a wide variety of conditions, everything from uneven technical trails to flat gravel fire roads. Considering the cost of these shoes and how well reviewed they are I'm shocked how bad the SG5's are and just flat out dissatisfied with these shoes. Mostly due to the bad upper fit, but also because they feel lifeless to pick up the pace in. The only good part I like is the vibram grip and that the offer reasonable protection to the foot. This will be my last pair of Hoka trail shoes.

Favorite shoe
We wore only ON CLOUDS, friend suggested to give Hoka a try. Now our clouds sit in the back of the closet...

Speedgoat not just for running
I use the Speedgoat model as golf shoes. They are very comfortable when I walk 18 holes. I would recommend them. Vijay had a great idea.

Too narrow, and lacking stability for technical narrow
I like the squishiness for the pain in my spine, I do get somw relief there. However these shoes are incredibly narrow. Additionally I run on steep and rocky uneven technical trails, and these shoes wobble all over like high heels.

Completely inconsistent
I have a pair of 9.5 regular width speed goats that I love. They have about 400 trail miles on them. I ordered a new pair of 9.5 regular width same shoe different color, and they were so narrow that I thought my toe was going to tear through the side of them. Just make a consistent shoe that's the same size. The whole concept of buying on the internet seems great, except when you have to return and reorder just because the shoe is inconsistently made. Really unhappy this time around
