When 29ers first came out, you couldn’t get a fork with much more than 100mm travel. As they worked out the kinks (stiffness, strength) with theses designs, suspension travel grew. These days, 29-inch forks are just as good as 26-inch forks, leaving manufacturers the opportunity to really fine-tune their designs and innovations. The Fox 34 Float 29 140 CTD FIT Fork is a perfect example. The long travel and stiff chassis will grab your attention, but the reworked, lower-friction FIT sealed damper will keep it.
Unlike traditional open bath damper systems, the FIT damper fluid is sealed in an air-tight bladder. This prevents contamination, which improves the damper’s consistency during long descents. Fox also improved its CTD system, with more than twice the number of tuning options in the Trail setting for a more custom-tuned ride. Fox also improved its low-friction Kashima coating. While the gold outer layer remains the same, the base anodizing has been refined for an even smoother surface than before. What all this means is a better ride and more options to custom-tune the feel.
