Unboxing review

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First off, haven't used tent yet, just unpacked, assembled, and inspected. I was on the fence about ordering this just because of the price point and the brand. But I had to retire my Sierra Designs Omega CD and no one else is making a convertible 3/4 season tent. The materials seem functional but not techy, my othere tents have more of a grid pattern weave for the walls and the fly, this is just smooth fabric, not sure how that changes it's functionality or durability. The construction seems fine, solid stitching and reinforcement where needed. The bungee in the poles is way too loose, the poles don't want to stay together when you are assembling them. This is easy enough to correct so not a deal breaker for me. The floor tub comes fully taped along with the fly being fully taped. The ground cloth is odd in that is narrower than the tent floor, not sure what the point of not making it match the floor of the tent is. It sets up very easily. Like all tents with 2 doors it ends up being almost as wide as it is long once the fly is on. The missed details. Aside from the smaller 'back door' all of the zippers are one way. You can only start them at the bottom of the door and go up with them. Same for the fly. Also, the screens in the door covers are the same way. I would much prefer to be able to open the fly from top down if the vestibule is full of gear rather than having to 'superman' across the ground to get the the zipper and the base of the fly. For the screen doors it would have been nicer to be able to just have the top half of the panel of the screen cracked rather than having to have it cracked starting at head level first. In the end I decided to keep it a give it a go. For the price it is hard to beat. Fingers crossed and time will tell if it was worth it.
