Cool as the other side of the pillow, although it's not like anyone's sleeping.

The air up there is lovely, and now you can take your kid to see vistas from mountain tops. The Deuter Kid Comfort Air Carrier is a durable carriage for your most precious cargo, and it boasts mesh side panels for your kid to enjoy the "air-conditioning" and simple, safe side entry; both features distinguish from other child carriers. Deuter's design ensures proper weight distribution, adjustability, support, and moisture transfer to keep the person wearing the pack just a happy as the little person who loves to go along for the ride.

The Varifit adjustment system allows you to customize your fit by making individual height adjustments, which is good for both parents. Aircomfort mesh back panel draws moisture away from your back and permits air to flow in/out (from the bottom and sides) to keep your back cool and dry. The padded hip-belt and aluminum frame provide support and proper weight distribution. Two handles aid in putting the pack on or hauling it in and out of your car. In case you need to set the carrier down (with or without your kid in it), the fold-out aluminum stand is directly attached to the frame to support the carrier on level surfaces. A large lower pouch and small mesh side pocket are ideal for diapers, snacks, and bottle.

The Kid Comfort Air has plenty of features for the kid, too. The mesh material on the sides of the cockpit help keep your kid cool when it is hot outside, and the side entry empowers the little one by letting him climb into the seat by themselves. The 5-point harness secures child with cushioned straps and easy-to-use buckle that makes getting the little one in and out easy. The height-adjustable seat permits use with babies and toddlers (babies should be able to hold up head before riding in carrier). You can vary the distance from the frame whether your kid is upright or sleeping with the adjustable shoulder/head pads. The head pad lets him sleep soundly and even catches stray drool.

    "very comfortable" - Baby

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I gave this to my brother as a gift to use with his year old son. His son is a little small for his age and he still fits in great, hoping it will work for another year! Not only is this great for going on hikes and walks, but it is also perfect for doing yard work and you want to bring the baby with. The stands are also strong/supportive enough to set the pack down after the baby has fallen asleep without worrying about it tipping over.

    Love at first ride

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: One size fits all
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 185lbs

Purchased this pack or our 9 month old daughter. First ride was a hike in the Montana backcountry. Success! She loved it! The pack's fit and adjustment are superb. We easily transferred back-and-forth between myself (6') and my wife (5'3"). The pack rode more comfortably than standard backpacking packs. And we had it loaded as well: baby, 1.5 gallons water, sunscreen/bug spray, and standard diaper bag contents.
This is the first baby carrier that we have used, so comparison would be futile. But we are super glad we purchased the Comfort Air. Nothing seems to be sacrificed in terms of durability, stability, and performance. AND the breath-ability is phenomenal.
We have heard that Deuter is the standard in child carrier packs... our experience seems to suggest so.
Just as a clarification, this pack does NOT come with a sun/rain cover. That is sold separately for ~$30. There is also a full rain cover (extends around the whole pack and covers the child's legs) for ~$35. This full cover appears to require the sun cover to attach. We purchased the basic sun/rain cover immediately after using the pack a couple times. It works perfectly. After attaching the sun cover, the included basic rain cover slips over time and provides rain coverage around the child's head and shoulders.

    A Great Child Carrier.

I have a 7month old and was on the hunt for the right child carrier. I tried out a few (Kid Comfort III Carrier & Osprey Pocco Kid Carrier. ) but both were a bit to big for what I was looking for. This is a super lightweight pack and it has an adjustable back panel. I am 6'1"€ and my wife is 5'3 and it easily adjusts to fit the two of us. I will be using this for backpacking as well, it has a large pouch in the back and you can easily lash gear to the outside of the frame. This was a great replacement for the stroller on our recent trip to England , there were many places the stroller would not go that the carrier did! Thinking of getting one? DO IT!

    A Great Child Carrier.

    Seriously Awesome Pack!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My husband and I did a fair amount of hiking before having our son. Nothing too crazy, but usually just enough terrain to necessitate a hiking pack for taking our toddler out now. At 14 months old now, we hope to really get him out in nature this summer, so we needed a good hiking pack.

We decided to get a Deuter Pack, specifically the Kid Comfort Air. There are only a few brands that have name credibility as far as hiking packs for children go, but Deuter is top of the list and has amazing ratings across the board.

Why did I select this pack? Primarily, comfort for myself and my son. This pack is adjustable in every aspect, offers lumbar support for the adult, mesh lining so both you and your little one stay cool, great padded straps and padded straps and seat for your little one. I particularly loved the chin/head rest for the baby/toddler that's riding along. The seat offers a five-point harness to keep your little one safe and snug, and is wonderfully adjustable to keep them comfortable.

The pack has some great extras: good storage, offering multiple pockets and storage spaces, loops to hook items on to, a kickstand to assist with setting your child down while in the pack, and my personal favorite, foot straps for your child to rest their feet in (my guy loves to try to stand in the pack, or re-center his gravity by just flexing his legs.)

The side-entry option makes it incredibly simple to get your child into the pack. Within a matter of seconds I had my son in the pack, strapped in, and adjusted properly.

The pack is recommended for children that can sit up unassisted and hold their head up. The weigh limit should not exceed 45lbs. The pack itself is incredibly light, at only 6lbs. It easily folds up for storage and transport. The two handles make it easy to both carry, and assist with lifting to pull the pack on to your back (though, I've found that sitting on a bench or seat makes this infinitely easier to put on when alone.)

The pack is shockingly sturdy. The material is easy to clean, anti-chaf, durable, and comes in good, gender-neutral colors. The frame is also incredibly sturdy.

There are several accessories that can be purchased for this pack, too. A sun shade and weather shade are both options, which we will likely purchase in the future.

Depending on where you're purchasing, this pack will run you around $240. A fairly standard price for a good pack, and in my opinion worth every penny.

Overall, this pack is five stars in my book. A great, worthwhile purchase that will get us out into nature and hiking comfortably!

Thanks to Deuter for a wonderful product!

    Seriously Awesome Pack!

    So far so good

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My little guy and I both enjoy the carrier. I felt like it took a little time to get used to getting it all dialed in, but once I did I have felt comfortable using it. I started putting my boy in it at 6 months which was a question of mine from the beginning...when can he go in it? Once he is holding his head up on his own he is good to go. I would put him in it earlier and just walk around the yard and he'd kind of sink over to the side. He's now 7 months and does decently well in it and usually falls asleep. Great purchase and lighter weight and more breathable than the other deuter packs.

    A life saver!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We've been loving our pack, and she falls asleep all the time in it! It's allowing me to stay active and spend time with our daughter at the same time, and we can still use it for trips to the library and farmers market.

It's really easy to switch back and forth with my wife and adjust the shoulder strap height.

Now that she's a little older we open the side and my daughter climbs into it herself! Just make sure you're stepping on the kick-stand if you try this.

    The best!

The Deuter Kid Comfort Air has been a real treat for my family. It allows us to get outside together to hike, go to the pumpkin patch, or even just walk around town. The backsystem is easily adjustable, extremely breathable, and carries loads unbelievably well. The harness is easy to adjust and the platform seating seems to be really comfortable for our kid. This kid carrier has the perfect blend of simplicity with all the key storage spaces and comfort features. Deuter continues to make the best products out there... thank you!!

    Unanswered Question

Hi team, how does the Air compare to the Kid Comfort I? On paper, they appear nearly identical, though the KC I is a little lighter. I'm trying to understand what the benefits of the Air or the I are over one another. Thanks!
