Adequate for the job
As the three star suggestion title explains. These shorts were just okay. I wasn't looking for something that was too bulky so I ended up with these. If you just want a little extra safety around your hips I'd say these will give you a smidge of confidence. I wouldn't recommend for something high impact like mountain biking though.

Probably Did Something, But Not Much
Being new to snowboarding, I knew I would be falling a lot. I decided to get these as a precaution and because they were low profile (I did not buy my pants to fit the huge padding of some other products). The hip protectors were adequate, but the odds of falling on your hip (at least for me) were pretty small. The tailbone protection left much to be desired - pretty soft and the foam compressed quickly over the days of sitting on chair lifts, etc. The removable tail bone foam also likes to try to pop out when you go to the restroom, so that's an extra bit of fun. Overall I still left with a severely bruised tailbone and a giant bruise on my butt, so save your money here.

Just started my first snow season snowboarding. After falling through the first day, I got this the very next day to save my tailbone. And it does the job very well ever since! I normally wear xs for pants/leggings - I had small size and they fit well. I could have my baselayer underneath and it didn't feel tight. There are two pieces of removable pads at tailbone area. I usually use two for max protection. I used them for a few times now and they did absorb the impact pretty well. But at the same time, I found them shifting quite easily especially after a few falls. They probably wouldn't just fall off completely since they were worn under snowpants, but it felt really weird and I sometimes needed to go back to the changing room to adjust it. I don't know just using one pad would help fixing the problem. But it'd be great if the pocket for the pad has a lid or zipper.

A real butt saver!
I ordered these after my second day learning to snowboard when I hit my tailbone pretty hard on some ice. They work great on the tailbone and hip areas (even with a previously-hurt tailbone), although I wish they had a *tiny* bit of padding on the butt in between the larger pads. That being said, I've continued to wear them through my learning process and never hurt again...at least not on my tailbone or hips. I ordered a medium (usually a 7-8 pant size) and they fit very, very snug without being constricting at all. Plus, they're so low-profile you could probably wear them under jeans if you wanted to without anyone knowing.

really nice fit
I usually wear xs-s size legging and I felt that S is a little bit tight for me. The protection effect on my tail bone is perfect! The slim short does its job. I tried other two bulky shorts before and they didn't really work any better than this one. there are two pieces of removable pads. and it shifts easily during ride. It won't come off but makes me feel a little bit weird when taking it off.

slim and protective
I am a solid size M, and the size M shorts are very snug. Very. Snug. I can get them under my size M ski pants perfectly. I snowboard, and fell (getting off the chairlift, as always) and my hips didn't know what hit 'em. I have a bruised tailbone from last year's adventures, and with a doubled up tailbone pad, I didn't have issues. Good protection, but snug if you're a full-sized medium.

Thin butt effective pads.
So I am trying to be stylish on the hill with my slender pants but needed some padding so I can try new things. These pads fit the bill. They are slim and fit under my pants perfectly. I don't even feel like I have them on unless I am driving. I got a size large. I am 6'1" tall and weigh 155 pounds. If you are looking for major padding these may not be the right ones. I shred in the good old midwest where we have hard snow and lots of ice and I feel they have padding in all the right places and meet my needs perfectly.

Thank you so much for your comment!! I am 6' and about 150 so I know we slam pretty hard! And I'm on the East Coast plenty of ice as well. I'm getting into skateboarding again and was looking into something for those constant pavement slams. I snowboard as well but now that I have more experience my butt thanks me ;)

Good for this second-time snowboarder
Just wore these shorts for 4 days straight snowboarding in CO. As it was my second time snowboarding, I fell a LOT. I have to say, these shorts delivered much more than I expected. Protection: No tailbone pain whatsoever - these shorts came with two soft removable tailbone pads that didn't shift as far as I can tell. I had a few small bruises in areas where there was no padding (mind you, I tried to pull off a few probably ill-advised jumps and ate it). Nice added layer of warmth for the bum on the chairlift and in the snow doing up bindings/waiting. Fit: Really flattering considering they are impact shorts - didn't have to size up my pants and they were undetectable to the naked eye under my Burton Indulgence pants. Very comfortable - I didn't notice I was wearing them. For reference, I'm a 5'6"145lbs female and I chose a medium for this (and my Burton pants). Build quality: I expect these to last me a few seasons. Some of the stitching pulled out because I yanked them up pretty hard putting them on. Padding seems like new still. Not sure how they will turn out in the wash, I plan to hand wash or put on delicate cycle and air dry... Bottom line: if you are looking for a good, thin, impact short - this is your best bet.

Hi, just wondering if this actual covers the butt - the seat bones, looks as though it's only the tailbone, I've been boarding for a few seasons but still consider myself in between rookie and intermediate...am trying to decide between these and the other pair.

Mild Impact Protection
It was quite tight around the waist line, but the overall fit was fine for snowboarding. The design and fit was slim. However, the impact short was not as effective. I was disappointed that it didn't cushion the blow as much as I expected. Perhaps the inserts were not enough or maybe the impact was extremely rough. My bum was still bruised.

Simple but effective
I've never worn impact shorts because they were too bulky and uncomfortable. My days of hip and tailbone bruising are over I! love these shorts because they are subtle on the padding but protect in just the right places.

Fits very well! Quality is good)

Tight and light
Just the right amount of protection on the hips and tailbone...very slim..comes with 2 removable tailbone pads so you can double them up if you choose...

Nice slim fit -- padding tends to shift
Love the fit of these. Thin, light design is great under slim-fit pants without looking lumpy or bumpy. Only issue is that when using the tailbone padding, it seems to shift a bit throughout the day, esp when you use the double pads. I feel like I'm constantly trying to shove them back into the sheath after they ride up and out. Some kind of top closure to keep them stable in the pocket would be great.

Have any of you tried to wear base layer...
Have any of you tried to wear base layer underneath the impact shorts? I normally wear base layer under my snowboard pants and would like to know if this will fit over the base layer well. thanks,
March 3, 2014
Yes, I wore these with 2 base layers! 1 thin pair of silk longjohns and 1 pair of underamour coldgear leggings. I chose my normal size (M) in these shorts.
