Admit Defeet into your closet.
Wool used to be the material of choice for cyclists, then it was phased out in favor of synthetics, and now it’s back in a big way. It's not just for your feet, either, but that doesn't mean wool socks aren't the best. Defeet's Wooleator High Top 5in Men's Socks combine merino wool, nylon, and Lycra to achieve a killer combination of natural moisture management, odor protection, stretch, and durability, all without eating a giant hole into your wallet. Merino's naturally durable, too, so the Wooleator will last for seasons, and the mesh instep takes its cooling capabilities to the next level.

Wore Out After Less Than 350 Miles
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: XL
Use these socks and a pair of Darn Tough socks on rotation for my AT thru hike. Loved how these socks fit and dried quickly. Unfortunately they didn't last long. For their cost I felt they should have lasted a couple hundred miles or at least have a better return policy for wearing out. Areas that wore out first were above the ankle, right below the heel, and above toes.
Comfortable
Very comfortable and long-lasting socks. They fit true to size.

Great wool socks for biking. The regulate temperature well and resist odor. I'm a men's size 11 and they fit great.
Great for hiking
Bought these on the recommendation of Adventure Alan and Andrew Skurka. They are thin, comfortable, dry quickly (super important), and are really durable. And they're affordable. Can't go wrong.
Fantastic Value

For the money, it's hard to beat the DeFeet Wooleator. One of the rare cycling pieces that hits that happy-wallet combination of durable enough to last, while being inexpensive enough to replace (if the event arises). They're thin enough to ride in warm weather, but heavy enough to act as part of a layered setup with booties for winter riding. They even have a new-school approved cuff height.
